The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

There's an official Yongnuo account (or at least it looks official) but the guy I used also said he worked there too lol.

I just picked the first one I found with a decent amount of feedback and a decent price from the ones that were posted at the time on Flash Havoc.

Month of willy waving:

Lencarta Smart flash kit
Canon 24-105L
Benbo Trekker & Head
Battery grip
95cm Octobox
Backdrop stand and vinyl
Light meter

Its been an expensive one!

Which seller did you use? Wondering if there's one I should be looking to use or if they're all much of a muchness.

NM, have ordered one now, will see what it's like when it arrives. If they're decent I'll probably get another couple :)

Oh well that fell through and it looks like all the prices have started creeping up now :(

Yeah I guess demand will be high for a while :/ I'll probably buy a second one at some point but first I'll learn how to use this one lol

The Speedliter's Handbook comes highly recommended although it doesn't cover the new wireless system on the 600EX-RT. There's an updated version coming but not for a good few months yet I don't believe. The principles are still all valid though.

Got the shipping email this morning for the 2 YN600-EX-RT. I guess I won't see sign of them until next week though... Hopefully they arrive before the December wedding so they can be put to proper use.

Looks like he's out of stock too, I do recall there were only 3 left and I bought 2 I guess!

Some quick and dirty shots and some slightly less quick and dirty :)

Some recent Yongnuo acquisitions plus a sneaky little Canon EF-S 24mm STM which convinced me to purchase it today... Damn you lack of self control!

The flash and controller come in black ninjas like pouches so you can sneak about in the dark with them

Probably looks like any other flash?

Little flipout diffuser thingy. Not sure it does much but it's better than nothing I guess :) There's also a separate plastic one that goes over the end.

The clear plastic thing that covers it not a diffuser. The white card is a diffuser (by reflecting light). The clear plastic widens the spread of the flash.

All I know is that there's bright shiny stuff that comes out the end and it hurts my eyes! I should really read the manual lol.

Do all flashes have those little pull out reflector/diffuser combos? Do they actually work quite well?

If you put the flash on, with a zoom lens, the flash will adjust its zoom to the zoom of the lens.

If you pull the plastic thing out, it will go to 24mm and stay there.

Not all flash comes with that, although i never had one that didn't...I've only had all the top of the line Canon flashes (550/580II/600) and they all have it.

The 600EXs are still in transit but the E3-RT arrived today. Compared to the YN-622c-TX the E3 doesn't feel as premium in build quality. It's got a hollowness to the plastic used whereas the 622c-TX looks and feels like something Nikon or Canon would make. The LCD on the E3 is also not as crisp as the 622c and the backlight is like a Timex indiglo illumination whereas the E3 is just some green LED bulbs on one side which you can see the glow of.

Apart from those few gripes everything else appears to be excellent. I can see that immediately changing flash group mode and power is quicker on the e3, no need to press the cycle group button until it goes to the one you want to change. The display has more information on screen too especially in the menus. I also really like the rubberised hotshoe attachment and quick release.

The laser AF pattern is still not aligned centre on the viewfinder when the subject is up close, it's only centred with distant subjects - Not an issue as AF lock still happens using the dimmer patterned area outside of the main pattern.

I've now saved 4x Eneloops by going this upgrade path. Will put the 565 II pair and 622c + TX kit on MM in coming days.
