The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

What is really odd is that the X-H1 sells for about the same price as the S10. The S10 is basically a baby X-T4, it has a lot of it's features, missing the higher dot EVF and video features mostly and only 1 SD card slot. But compared to the X-H1...the S10 is couple of generations ahead in almost all aspects, but they go for about the same price used! Th X-H1 often go for £600 and the S10, there is one for £650.
It's a weird 2nd hand pricing structure for sure.

The trouble I have with travel is I want to bring most of my lens! Which negates keeping it light and simple. I also think I'll want full frame performance in a Fuji, which isn't going to happen.

Try take just 1 body and a 35mm. I started doing it when I was going to HK annually, so I felt as I know I was going back again next year I was more liberated knowing I can take a different lens again next time so I picked a different lens each time for a few years. Started with a 16-35, then a 35/1.4, then 50/1.4 and one time just a 45/TSE.

I then kinda settled with a 35/1.4 pretty much across Europe travels, even went to NYC with just the 35mm. But when I went to Japan I take 3 lenses, the 35mm, a 24-70 and 70-200. In reality the 24-70 would be fine but I found at night the 35/1.4 was super useful, the 70-200 could be left at home but I took it for specific shots.

I am tempted to take just a X100F or V to Croatia later this year but if not, the A7R3 and 35GM is perfectly good enough, but I have this one shot in mind that I might need the 70-200 for.....

This ^^^

I don't have a huge variety of lenses in the first place (12mm, 23mm, 35mm) but if I want to travel light I commit to one and go with it. I take different photos, and the "limitation" if you want to call it that, is the ultimate fun of photography.

The X100 series is really attractive, and I wish I'd bought one when I had the chance, but with an XT and a single lens I only really miss out on the pocketability and the leaf shutter+flash combo, which is a niche advantage at best.

Also, you will be surprise how much you come away knowing a lens more and better. Because you are constantly working that lens, that focal length. You will start seeing shots that works best in that focal length. It starts to become an extension of you and second nature. Then you also start to let go of the shots that is out of reach, instead of being upset about it, you work to make a photo out of it or just happily accept it.

You will then realise zooming isn't always the answer. I think doing what I did helped me to be a better photographer.

I switched systems.....Again!
I bought my Fuji X-H2s about a year ago now and as good as it was, I preferred and missed the Sony system, so, finally, for the first time ever in my photography hobby, i've gone full frame!

Welcome, it's a great camera,got any glass?

I've got the 24 1.4 G , 90mm G macro , 200-600 and Samyang 35..the last one is great and very light for walking around with for the cheap price.

Yeah i bought the 24-105G and the Zeiss 16-35 on clearance, hoping to get the 100-400GM very soon, i was considering either the Sony 200-600 or the Sigma 150-600 but found them pretty slow at focussing when moving from something close to something far. Both of them were the same so not sure whether that was user error, or just normal with long zooms?

Long zooms ten to take longer.

My 200-600 is good, generally though it's best to set the limiter ,so say I'm shooting birds I know they will be quite far away so I set so it only zooms from so many meters to infinity, speeds up the zoom as it's not going through the full focal length hunting.

If it's a mixed bag it's set from 0-to infinity.

I would go for the lens you won't need the tripod much with the OM-1's excellent image stabilisation.

Went to see the Bee Eaters in Norfolk yesterday, they were about 150m away and could really have done with a tripod when using the 300mm + 2x extender, mostly cause of the wind, so got a small rig carbon tripod on its way to give that a go, will also be useful for 80mp high res mode, 50mp hand held works well but will be good to max it out :)

Did you get any good photos?

Hello everyone.
You guys were talking about a lack of GPS a few pages back, Have manufacturers totally scrapped this on new cameras?
I'm an amatuer photographer who likes to photograph and log the details of rare Indian wells.
I had a D5200 and used a cheap attachment to provide GPS, but it was cumbersome and I was so glad when I could upgrade to the D5300. However, my D5300 is now knackered.

I'm not too keen on using a mobile to connect to a camera, are there any recent cameras (make not important) that have built in GPS? Preferebly under £2000.

Thank you!

For Sony, you need to BT it to the app. Which is useless because it doesn't reconnect reliably. I set it up before i went to Japan, got it working at home and when i got there, it just didn't work.

Good job you ain't keen on a mobile connection to a camera , I've had a Nikon d850 , canon R5 and now a Sony arIV and not one has had had a quick and easy connection and then if it does connect (lucky !)the apps are garbage.
