*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

I just got off the phone with Apple, asking why "7 day shipping" is actually 16 days away for me. They said they're having to ship directly from the factory in Asia, and *depending* on Customers there and in the UK it might arrive in time for the estimated 6th Nov delivery date.

Not a happy chappy. Going to see if I can get a HE discount (buying for my girlfriend) from a store, 40m away.

I think he means not going for the 2.8 because it runs hot

I just logged in VIA the US store and it gives more info.

Mine has been shipped by UPS Ireland and expected delivery date is the 24TH!:D

Could you explain this? Is there a difference between the 2.4 and the 2.53?

I was wrong.

2.4 = P8600
2.53 = T9400
2.8 = T9600

I thought the 2.53 Macbook Pro was using the P9500 but it is the T9400.

Check this link here http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/res...obile/processors/core2duo_m/feature/index.htm

You can see that both the T9400 and T9600 have the same Thermal dissipation power of 35Watts and the P8600 has 25W.

Thinking about it the smart person would buy the 2.4 model and config it with 4gb of Memory and whatever hard drive they want. The extra 30% heat output and power use is not really worth it in my opinion.

Would be interesting to see some temps though for each model.

just got back and managed to bag myself a nice macbook pro 2.4 :) loving it so far, previously had a sony Viao and this thing feels as solid as a tank compared to the sony

I know some people may think I'm all negative, negative about the macbook. Honestly just trying to be as informed as possible when I make the decision. I came across this video whilst trying to find some vids about the screen.

Some guy talking about the heat generated of his new macbook pro causing some games to lock up the laptop.

Unless I'm mistaken that link shows that the 2.53 could be either P9500 or T9400 - 2.53Ghz is listed for both processor numbers ("2.8 - 2.53Ghz" and "2.53Ghz").

scroll down to the Unibody-construction MacBook Pro section.

Processor
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn with 3MB on-chip L2 cache or
2.53GHz with 6MB on-chip L2 cache (P8600/T9400)
Optional 2.8GHz (T9600)

Before I found this I thought that the 2.53 would be the P9500 but I guess not.

Personally I couldn't justify the additional cost for the 2.8, but I wanted 4GB memory and the 512MB of video card RAM. Adding 4GB to the 2.4 spec pushed it close enough to the 2.53 to be able to justify the additional outlay. I don't think I'll lose any sleep over the additional 10W power usage given how light my usage is anyway, but it's good info to know!

My order still hasn't changed at all from "Not yet shipped" (ordered on the 20th) and I am still able to cancel it? 3rd time of asking really but does anyone have a clue how long it is before order status changes typically?

I guess high demand and slower manufacturing process. Look at your estimated delivery date and take 10 days off it. I guess that will be the ship date.

I ordered on the 16th and it was shipped today

You can cancel up until the status changes to "preparing for shipping" (or words to that effect).

And speak of the devil:
