*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Rebate is a gamble really, as I mentioned before the form you have to fill out may ask you for HE details (I haven't gone through it). It's a decent enough bargain as it is with the HE discount (£50 vs £279 for 3 year AppleCare).

Does anyone think there's any danger of Apple not honouring these orders? Seems like quite a few of us have ordered through a certain dodgy HE link.

I cant see why Apple wont do it as they still making a lot of money through it all I am sure.. And they getting more sales through it..

I am just hoping that link still works when the new iMac are out as I am in no rush and rather wait for the new iMac

What I though is if some of you who are NOT in HE and get a mac through the HE store how do you go about taking the mac back to apple store for repair?

Maybe you finished Uni a week after getting it? Presumably you don't actually have to stay in HE for the 3 years your kit is warrantied for?

3 yr applecare comes free with HE doesnt it, £50 is for phone support? or have i got that wrong? :)
Is it? Didn't know that.. ah well. :(

From what i have read on here i think yes, i'm not 100% sure and i'm sure someone will clarify this on here soon :)

Is it too late remove it from your order as i'm guessing it hasnt shipped?

If i'm wrong i will purchase applecare for £100 before my first 12 months is up.

No, standard HE package is 1year warranty and 90 days phone support. For £52 (discounted Applecare package), you get 3 years of both.

I just ordered one of the lower spec new macbooks and it should arrive around the 10th November :)

It's going to be my first ever mac and my first ever laptop too, I hope OSX isn't toooo hard to get used to.

I got one of the almost free nanos too which will be going on the bay since I have a touch.

There seems to be mixed views on what the contract uplift warranty does for HE purchases. There's an example post on Mac Rumors:

This was the best explanation i could find for the HE Applecare confusion and why i opted to spend the extra £47.

"The 3 year standard warranty doesn't have mail in repairs after 1 year or phone support after 90 days however you can take it into an applestore to get it repaired for free (within the 3 years)

the uplift basically upgrades the warranty to full applecare. 3 year phone support and 3 year mail in repairs.

also i noticed that if you buy without the uplift and enter your serial into the support page it only shows 1 year warranty but if you get the uplift it shows 3 years.

I bought the contract uplift with my MacBook Pro last year and the last point wasn't same for me. I was worried when it showed 1 year however, upon calling, the staff on the phone confirmed my MacBook Pro's 3 years warranty.

Looks like it's best to discuss this in a separate thread in order to clarify the warranty and what the contract uplift exactly does.

No I use it all the time. It works fine.

Just don't post it on here or ask people to email it to you.

Was in the Belfast Apple store the other day.

I like the trackpad, it feels great. I didn't expect much to have changed but your hand moves along it a lot better than the previous one.

Was blown away by the 30" monitor. Inspired a pure greedy, greedy want.
