*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

11 days since I ordered, 4 days since it was shipped and my order just says:

Carrier Tracking Number
In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly.

...whilst other people are tracking theirs all over the World via UPS, etc. Total p***take.

Mine says the same

I'm taking mine back as the HDD is making an odd noise. They say if it's inside 14 days it's not a problem to swap either the whole thing or just the drive. Problem is, I've had it 16 days ! Reckon they'll sort it out anyway ?

Well, after faffing about getting the labels off for the iPod rebate, and faffing about migrating my system over, I'm done.

Shiny.

Massive trackpad.

More up here.

A couple of pointers for anyone upgrading: Don't restore your old system drive onto the new hard drive, it won't boot; Same goes for restoring from a Time Machine backup, or the system migration tool, though an archive and install sorted it out.

The online part went through fine, but there's still the verification step to go.

See here. You need to remove the labels from the MB/MBP box (an almost impossible task!) and from the iPod box. I had to remove the top layer of the cardboard so that the label didn't tear. A sharp knife and plenty of patience!

Now I know why they switched from a discount to a rebate: 90% of people will be put off by having to remove these labels, saving them a boat load in unclaimed rebates.

I wish we had rebates on everything in this country like they do in the US. Nearly everything you buy there comes with rebates. Sure it can be a pain doing the lables and receipts but you save so much money (Parents have a house in Florida and I have bought a lot of gear there) in the long run.

Just check out some of the online pc hardware retailers and you will see what I mean.

I guess in this country people who are not used to rebates will not take advantage of it but it really is worth it!

On a plus note my MBP finaly shipped!
Estimated Delivery Date - 10 Nov 2008

Can't wait now. This old MBP is so annoying with its dead ball bearing fans.

I rang up Apple this morning as on the website it says that it is on schedule for today but there is no details for TNT or UPS. The guy said that they were having a large bulk sent across and that I will likely to receive it on 7-10th of Nov. Even though in the e-mail I got from them I am likely to receive it no later than the 5th. This is very annoying 'cos they basically know the same as us. It's between me and China and not sure where...
