*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

How's the Scorpio after a couple of days of use? Any ticking, clicking or vibrations? The stock hDD in mine's making this clicking noise when idle that's doing my head in. Some say it's OS X power saving some say it's not.

I'm torn between the scorpio or the OCZ SSD depending on the clicking !

Well I decided on the SSD and so far so good !

I've done a short review at www.the-iblog.com

No offence but from your video it didn't boot particularly quickly, still seemed to take 20+ seconds from a cold start. I'm surprised you went and spent £171 on a replacement SSD drive without even looking into whether it would be possible to tweak the "aggressive power management settings" on the existing HDD?

EDIT: I watched the wrong video to start off with. :o

Interesting. Although I hear the OCZ SSD's are riddled with problems and have been advised to wait for the Intel to drop in price. Im not in too much hurry to upgrade my 250Gb 5400rpm in my MBP.

That's the point I made on the blog, despite all the slating the drive's got, it seems to work fine in a MacBook. All the reports I've seen of people using one with OS X have been favourable. Not really sure why though !

Just read the blog, keep us updated and let us know if you run into any problems etc.

I will do yeah, might be worth keeping an eye on the blog (shameless plug !) ;)

I've been unzipping and installing stuff since I installed the drive and it's been fine, so not sure really. I get the feeling everyone thinks I'm making it up though ! Have a read over on MacRumors, some guy had the OCZ in an Eeepc and had nothing but problems. Put the same drive in his new MacBook and it's flying.

Also, don't forget all the poor reviews are of the Core v1, this is the Core v2. Not sure what they've changed though.

Noticed on your blog you said anandtech ripped it to shreds. As you can see from their tables, the ssd performs excellent in a linear sequential fashion, as soon as you introduce some random reading and writing, access time begins to suffer. It could be the way the controller talks to the windows os, I don't know. Please keep us updated, it would be great if it were as good as slc on the mac!

Just been playing a HD movie, downloading another and opened about 4 apps in succession and no slow down.

Been looking at xbench results for my drive and the what people are getting with the standard SSD that Apple provide, and it's swings and roundabouts. The OCZ is much quicker in certain places but a little slower in others. Like I say though, so far I've not managed to make it stutter etc.

The areas it's slower than the Apple SSD though, it still seems faster than normal HDDs, so it's not really slow.

Can't wait to join the apple family, ordered my 2.53 mbp today through an apple friends and family discount so made a good saving as well.

And you'll be most welcome mate.

I switched two weeks ago and will never look back.
The os is a doddle to use. The GUI is excellently pleasing. The speed - same as yours spec wise - is quite frankly astonishing and my only regret was I kept on MS for so long, (17 years)

BTW don't be tempted to run Parallels or BootCamp to sit Vista or XP inside OSX. It runs like a three legged mule. It tips your CPU useage through the roof and you get the feeling your shiny new MBP has in some way be sullied.

All the best when you get it.

i had a demo on the new macbook today and i didnt like the new trackpad :( how are you guys finding it?

i didnt like the iphone touch sensitive screen but love it now, its the whole hidden mouse button, so used to having a button

My order was made on the 12th and shipped on the 17th, and i now have tracking numbers for 4 of the 5 items, the only item without is the MBP. Yet if i click on the "track this shipment" button for any of the other items, it brings up a page that seems to include all of the items including the MBP, quoting the 21st for delivery.

Confused now as to whether or not the MBP is delayed, anyone else had this happen and can offer an insight?
