The *New* Official C&C3 Thread

so what do you guys go for in long play games?

I've tried the mamoth army and I've tried the Pitbull army.
Pitbull army you can get 200+ and wipe em out easy, mammoth you only need 20 and wipe em out easly and you also get a high K/d ratio.

Put pit bulls give you good defence at the start, but with the artillery upgrade they like blowing themselves up, why do they crowd the structure/tank, why dont they launch from maximum range.

Is there anyway to get them to fire from maximum range?

same can be said for the other teams, avatar vs venom.

Good tactic will use a mixture ;p

at the beginning of the game, but a long game there really is no need, for gdi with the mammoths, they just obliterate everything and with good air defence when in packs.

Yeah I find that quite annoying how units feel the need to be shoulder to shoulder. The SUPER long range skrin airship is guilty of this too. I find myself having to micromanage it too much or it will just sit ontop of some AA turrets instead of taking them out from 50 miles away.

What's your ISP?

What error do you get?
Homecall

Cannot connect to backend server.

Its not EA because it happens probably 50% of the time i try to log on.

When it goes wierd the ping to google can go up 200-300 and I ping my router for <1ms, but when i tracert google the first hop to the router suddenly takes 200-300ms :s

Anyway

Yea basically was my point, however in later game I find ppl dont use air attack enough (apart form venom spam).

Just started the scrin campaign and I gotta say the scrin mission briefings KICK ARSE.

They are really well done and I like the voice they used, I must say for the first time in a while I am impressed with EA who knew they could actually do a decent game

Anyone else feel stealthed units are detected too easily?

What would you say is the best defence structure in the game?

The nod woman is a bit useless since she's visable when moving - I think she should have been like the lotus in generals.
But the other thing I liked about generals was how your units went yellowy when you were 'found'. The snipers are hard to tell if you've been 'found' or not. I find.

Are the stealth tanks detectable?

Best defence is the sonic tower I reckon. Plus a couple of AA's behind that.

Stealth is fine imo. I have wreaked havoc with stealth tanks before.

Neither of the commandos are great, very situational units but if utilised can win a battle.

Sonic towers are best defense as they hit more than one unit, they can be very destructive if you actually command them during defense. However the scrin lightening towers do take out ground and air which is nice.

The mastermind can be pretty mean if you have enough time to micromanage and such.
Teleporting a handful of engineers to the back of someones base can really screw them up!

I get "Cannot connect to backend server" at any time after about 3pm. It's incredibly annoying, as I never get chance to play it before 3pm!

I don't really understand that last bit yof your post - I'm no good with networks. :p

I've only been playing the Demo on XBL atm and i find that i can win a whole battle just using a commando as the idiots im playing try to desperatly Mammouth rush and seem to forget I can fly this dude in round the back and take all of there main tech tree buildings.

You – OUT, no console talk here!  ;)

Seriously though, I’ve played the XBL demo and its completely different to the pc version, the dynamics and balancing are so wildly different it’s shocking. Also given that the Actions per minute of a console RTS player are a fraction of what’s possible on the pc so crafty tactics like that are hard to counter, but also very high risk if it goes wrong because the majority of your attention will have to be focused on him rather than your defence as it’s difficult to do both effectively with a controller.

but...but...but...i wanna join in :(

Its only cos i have yet to purchase and build my fantastic PC. A agree compleatly though, i have played the pc came and the XBL demo and the Pc wins hands down. It is faster, has an easier interface, has more feature like reversing tanks.

The only upside to the XBox version is..........well nothing tbh, its a little laggy at times and most people just quit after 5min accuasing you of rushing cos you sent in 5 pitbulls to recon there base and fired at there harvester...dam pussys.

As for crafty tactics...i dont ever see that really happening...its all just a matter of who can rush fastet, or get away with one of the few ways to counter a 10 strong mammouth tank rush. I know this will change later when you get interesting combinations of teams in a 2v2 battle. But atm with it being restricted to just GDIvGDI its all rushing.

Oh but i do have to say that using a controller is annoying if your used to a mouse and KB but its not a disadvantage when you consider that the opponent also has the same situation. It just takes a little getting used too.
The worst park is cycling along to repair a building and in the heat of trying to deal with that and defending you sell the dam thing by mistake.
