The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

should i swap to giffgaff from orange?

loving the sound of unlimited internet.

well, i thinks its a great service and its just all positives atm.
Obviously it probably wont last forever, but for now its great.

If you want a sim ask for a refferal link (free £5)

Highly tempted to trade in my i5700 for £60 and make up the difference to get one of these. Wouldn't be so bad if there was no way to update it from 1.5 using Linux. Thoughts?

although i like the i5700, that would be a very well spent £30.

The thing you would notice instantly is the screen difference, then the ability for you to tweak.
In your position its a good call, if you can't get someone to boot 2.1 for you

If you're on about rooting then you don't have to do it off a PC at all, it can be done off the phone itself which is what I had to do as the drivers for me wouldn't work on Windows.

Well i mainly meant updating from 1.5 to 2.1, as well as routing. I thought the only way to do this was to use a PC?

Not only that but is it not a better phone in almost every way? Bar camera and perhaps build quality.

No idea as i've never heard of an i5700 but I had to do it through my phone because the drivers wouldn't work on my Windows XP when I had that installed.

Download a programme called Universal Androot and drag it onto your phones memory card. Then download an app called app installer which will install apps from your memory card and run and install Universal Androot and hit 'root my phone' or whatever it says and that's it, your phone is rooted. You'll then have to install Clockwork which enables you to install new ROM's.

On another note, my battery is still on 99 xDDDDDDDD

guys what touchpal are you all using? the one im using doesnt work with word prediction. I press any key and the keyboard vanishes.

Can I use the stock touchpal.apk on this 2.2 rom?

I'm finding the keyboard frustrating to type on lately, the touch screen feels so unresponsive compared to the iPhone.

Just bought one of these and loving it. Great phone for the money.

For the keyboard, I've just installed the Gingerbread keyboard, vastly superior to the stock ones IMO.

No root required as well, but you do need to register at the xda forum to get the download (no biggie).

Well, I've been ******* around for about an hour now and I'm fed up, going to bed :(. Read all the guides on the Modaco forums linked on 1st page, but whenever I try to root it I'm getting "FAILED (command write failed <Unknown Error>) :(/.

Have you tried using a Linux live CD? The drivers aren't the best for windows.

Well...it is vastly less responsive than the iphone to be honest...hence the price tag on the iphone vs this
