The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

The phone has a resolution of 800x480, if you wanted to go that extra bit you could take a screenshot on your phone then use the image to make your new one from. That would allow you to factor in your dock bar and status and not lose any of the image when you apply it.

I done this but it doesn't let me select the whole picture?

How are people finding the battery on these? Wifes one is running Swedish Spring and the battery can drop 20% in a couple of hours just sat on the table (after i've been through with task killer to make sure there is nothing eating the juice in the back ground) Wifi & gps are off.

The battery is fine, but it all depends on what you do with the phone. If you only call and text, it should last a least 3 days maybe 5.

If you have the screen on all the time playing games, web browsing etc.. it'll last a day.

If you're listening to music, you'll get a couple of days out of it.

GPS - you'll get about 2-4 hours.

Hmm Installed CM7 latest stable and tried latest nightly on my mates san francisco but the touch screen will randomly stop working and text input is going a bit nuts. You just lock and unlock and its fine again for a little while.

Any idea whats wrong with it? was installed with a rom from cm7 site and something to do with being upgraded to gen2. What rom will i try next?

Im lucky if i get a day out of it just txting and the odd surf, im starting to think my battery is faulty as it's not lasting anywhere near as long as most people say. It's a shame as it's a fantastic phone for the price.

More battery woes. Started using the phone this morning after leaving it on charge all night. Decided to take a screenshot of the battery info page to get a better idea of how quickly the battery was draining.

At 9:49am, the battery was more than two-thirds charged:

At about 10:15am, despite the 'battery info' screen displaying 35% charge remaining, the phone spontaneously shut down while I was using it. Upon plugging it back in and checking the info screen:

So there we have it. If I use the phone for... well, anything at all really, the battery goes from 100% fully charged to dead (as in totally forced-shutdown dead) in about half an hour. As before, everything is switched off except wifi, and the screen is at the lowest brightness setting possible. I guess my battery must be ****ed? Any suggestions?

Lock the phone (i.e. push the power button to lock the screen) and leave it for a minute or two.

Go back and push one of the buttons at the bottom (Home, Menu or Back) and see if the screen turns on. If it does, then something is keeping it awake. The screen should never turn on from anything other than pushing the power/lock button at the top.

Just gave this a try - the screen does not turn on from anything other than the power button at the top. None of the buttons at the bottom wake it up.

Also, just from observation it doesn't seem to be a sleep problem. I can charge the phone fully, set it to sleep and walk around with it in my pocket all day, then when I start using it that evening the battery has lost almost no charge.

The problem is when I attempt to use it, that's all. As soon as I try to do anything with the phone the battery commits ritual suicide. :(

Your battery temp is pretty high. Mine is sitting in an office that's about 24c and the temp listed for the battery is 28c.

Voltage at 99% charge is 4154mV - if yours isn't near that on a full charge it's got problems.

I wonder if you have a dodgy program on there or something, that might be accessing the internet or using GPS without you knowing.

Programs can't access GPS or anything when I've manually shut that stuff off, can they? Also, it's a pretty fresh (like, only a couple days old) install of SS RLS5 with only a very few applications installed so far, so I don't think a rogue app is destroying my battery life, but I could be wrong. Maybe I'll try a different ROM and see if problems persist.

It had been in my hands being used for a little while when those screenshots were taken, and I was in a pretty hot room which probably didn't help. It's charging from USB right now in an unventilated room and battery temp is showing as a more reasonable 31C.

Re. the voltage, as soon as I get it charged back up to 100% again I'll check the voltage and post the results.

Just finished charging via USB, and voltage seems to be in the right ballpark.

If you buy system monitor from the market it will monitor applications and tell you which ones are consuming cpu.

I might look into this later. I'm only using a small handful of very common apps (LauncherPro, eBuddy, AndChat, Opera Mini etc) which I've been using as long as I've had the phone, and these battery problems are very recent - but still, it couldn't hurt to be certain that it is not a rogue application. I'd be surprised if it were, but stranger things have happened I guess
