The multitouch isn't as good as it needs to be for emulators. I wouldn't be using this for that.
Did that straight away , it's still annoying, would rather leave auto brightness on.

Ooer, sounds like a duff one to me. Any luck with a replacement?
Mine's been fine apart from the fact it seems to be developing creaky keys.
On another note, I've decided that Bladevillain might be a bit crap. Whilst it feels smoother in navigating around the phone, I keep on finding that it slows/crashes in angry birds and internet browsing, especially compared with the R4 rom (which was fine). One thing it doesn't seem to give is the option of switching off mobile network internet. It only seems to disable it when you switch wifi on.
The only downers with the R4 rom were WaveSecure, Titanium Backup and the rubbish stock keyboard. Might try something else - any recommendations? However, there's a little bit inside me saying to just go all-out and buy a used Desire...

Well about 10 calls later since Saturday, and being transferred from Sales to Collections to Tech Support, I finally got fed up and decided I'd return the damn thing rather than trying to have it replaced. Another 6 calls (!) and I think Ive got a prepaid envelope being sent out to me.
Shocking customer services from Orange.
A quick summary - sales cant do anything apart from sell, and "email" other departments (apparently !). Returns cant do anything until a handset has been diagnosed faulty. Tech support dont seem to understand that I havent registered my PAYG sim, because I never had a chance. And I cant register it now because the phone doesnt charge ! But they cant diagnose my handset unless Ive registered and have a phone number. Argh !
