The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

similar to the case which comes free with the Orange 'goodie bag' except with a orange tag, and it looks a bit thinner.

Oh christ.. Why am I getting so excited about a new sticker for a phone!? Ha ha

Nah, I tried to do it a few times during the week but unsucessfully, so am going to devote a bit of time to it this evening. More than anything, it is just my poor command prompt skills.

I think I will probably go with the Mocodo custom 2.1 Rom at first until someone releases the definitive Froyo.

All in all, as it's my first Android, I can't say how it compares to others. I will say I am really loving it though, and is is a little choppy at the moment because it still has Orange's poor version of Android, I'm sure it will be much better once i have put M2.1 on it.

For £120 (including topup), I think it is fantastic. It feels responsive, and i really like the layout of it all. Volue buttons are a bit squeaky, and it doesn't feel as solid as my GF's 3GS, bus considdering it is only a 4th the price, it's brilliant.

If you haven't had an Android before, I would recommend.

I will update when I try to install the customware this evening.

Could anyone please confirm what video format this phone supports? I can't seem to find out on google.

Cheers
The default video player only seems to do MP4, however I'm no expert on these matters. Did have a quick look at other video apps but they all seem to have some issue or other, frankly I'd just find some decent converter software and convert what you have to MP4 and be done with it.

Two free but very powerful programs for converting formats are:

Avanti and Handbrake.

Handbrake is a bit more user freindly.

It's app dependant, not phone dependant.

I use Rock Player and it supports pretty much all the main formats. I just encode all my shows to H264-.MP4.

Takes about 15 mins for a 45 min episode on my Q6600. And the awesome thing is if I convert two shows at once, it still takes 15 mins as it only seems to use 2 cores per stream. :D

The only trouble i find with Handbrake is that if you encode low bitrate videos the encoder will onlu use a small precentage of the processing power of the cpu and it takes forever to encode.

Anyone else order theirs from Orange recently (directly, not from play etc) as you get a giftbox or something with a watch, rubix cube, phone pouch and free game and stuff. Ordered mine last night and wondering what anyone else rated the freebies as. Seems like a good deal as the phone is cheap as chips for what it is.

Yeah the gifts are rubbish last years were better (skull candy headphones) the watch is really cheap I can actually hear it ticking whilst it's in the box :) I just played with the yoyo whilst my phone was charging and I might use the phone sock for a bit to stop it from getting scratched, but hey owt for nowt :)

Its a shame the screen-freeze bug is still there even in the latest build. Until they get that fixed, if ever, then I'm sticking with 2.1.

Trying BladeVillain 1.1.0 again and its great. Battery life is superb and its nippy enough too.
