I bought my wife a one yesterday and have installed the latest beta 2.2 rom, works great and for what I paid its not bad at all. Compared to the heap of junk which is my work 8520 its in a different league.
 
Hmm something odd is going on with this phone as its autotexting a number every time it gets turned on, with nothing showing in the text function. Going back to the shop to get it replaced.
 
I absolutly do not mind flashing this phone (when I get one) to the newer 2.2 Android o.s.

However I would only use the latest stable rom, rather than beta.

Anyone have a link?

Also can somebody confirm that these customs roms work flawlessly?

What drawbacks are there to loading customs roms?

Any features that get lost?

You really are going to have to do some reading at some point fella. At present there is no "perfect" 2.2 ROM, they are all alpha/beta or in development. The joys of user community driven upgrades.

Have a read of the links I posted in the thread a page back and make your mind up. I'm using FLB's 2.2 ROM, but will be switching over to Modaco's 2.2 when it gets out of alpha.

Procedure is the same I think as Modaco, but using different rom.

I think if I was to go about doing this procedure, it would be using a rom, that has been verified by you guys.

So far, the plan is to buy the phone, unlock it (for free) flash it using custom rom, and then buy contract/sim, probably using giffgaff, as advised in other thread.

Sounds plausable?

I will do some reading up as well. I guess I will have more question, as/when I actually go about the procedure.
