The New Stargate Universe Thread

I think he learned from his time away from SG-1 that works not that easy to find ;)

He can't even find work doing SG-1 movies anymore either as it seems there will be no more movies of either SG-1 or Atlantis :(

He won't be there long term though, probably just making a guest appearance and therefore will be there in mind but not body.

I want to watch this but like all series I can never be bothered to watch one per week and wait til the dvds are out. Surely it can't be any worse than season 9 and 10 of SG1?

Me and the Mrs over the last year have been watching SG1 series 1-10 back to back and I cannot believe how irrititating 9 and 10 have been. No wonder it got canned.

Hey, I loved the ORI storylines. Their technological superiority is what scared me. But I know what you mean - it seems that most people didn't like the ORI story arc.

Was it the last episode where they they get stuck in time and then travel back? That episode was one of the top3 episodes of SG1.

Last episode was Unending where the crew get stuck aboard the Odyssey frozen in time moments before the Ori are about to destroy the ship.

No Jack made them boring :(

Yep. That was the episode. Fantastic. It had everything - time travel, advanced technology, Asgard, Ori battles, the testing of the brand new weapons gifted by the Asgard. It really was a brilliant episode.

Hey, I loved the ORI storylines. .

Its actually boring me, I have to rewatch episodes the following morning because I will have nodded off halfway through.

You can tell they had decided to end it after season 8 then it got reinstated and this was the best they could come up with.

Haven't warmed to mitchell at all. Jonas was a fav character or mine, I was gutted when he went. Jackson should have gone to Atlantis as well.

One thing from the story I can never understand is that they say the Ancients where beaten by the wraith. How? Of all the enemy these series have thrown up they are by far the weakest.

IIRC they were planning to end it at Season 7 as they didn't know whether it would get renewed or not at the time. Richard Dean Anderson wanted to cut down his commitments on the show to spend more time with his daughter so O'Neill was reduced in screentime gradually from then on so i guess they were in a jam for coming up with a new formula.

I don't mind Mitchell, It's a shame Corin Nemac (Jonas) left the show. Jackson would have been interesting as a regular in Atlantis

Vastly superior numbers, they could build/grow more ships and soldiers faster than the ancients could destroy them. Also overconfidence on the ancients part in their technology.
It's explained how the Wraith managed to get so many troops in the Season 4 'Spoils of War'

As for the SG1 and SGA movies, who knows whether they'll actually get released. They're sort of on indefiniate hiatus at the moment. With MGM being in debt so much that they're for sale to the highest bidder that needs to be cleared up first. Ultimately whether they actually get released or not depends upon whoever ends up snapping up MGM (along with the rest of the franchise) and the performance of dvd sales.

By sheer numbers. There were some eposides which showed that the Wraith were "manufacturing" drone soldiers. They would simply overwhelm and lay seige to Ancient settlements until they died/surrendered. In the end, the Ancients abandoned Atlantis, after sinking the city.

The big problem with the Ancients was that they never thought they would/could lose, given their technological supremacy. They were complacent and eventually they were forced to flee.

I guess their situation is analogous to 1 man with a automatic gun vs 100 cavemen with clubs. Eventually, the man with the gun is going to get hit by a club and when he does, he will wobble, stop firing and be overwhelmed by the cavemen and their clubs.

All those brains in SG1 and Atlantis and not one person thought of introducing the Goald to the wraith. "Here feed on these, have a snack and let them heal up, feed again" ;)

I thought he was quite good in Burn Notice. :p

SG-1 peaked at the end of season 7 with the ancient chair and drone battle, sadly it went down hill from there, though in many ways im still glad it continued as we had a few good episodes and changes that we wouldn't have seen in Atlantis, like the new ship and tech.

I for one am a fan of all stargate series, so will continue watching the show, unless it gets really bad. I have enjoyed some of the episodes and as "background viewing" this show works fine.
Pretty much how I feel. I feel compelled to watch anything stargate related, and so far Universe hasn't put me off (yet).

LOL. :D

Perhaps, but he could also end up like Samantha Tapping, come in later on in the series with a new regular role (Carter in Atlantis).

Atlantis was pulled and they introduced us to Stargate Universe. Many people didnt like the first half of the season and hoping that the second half picks up. My own take is that the show will continue in the same vein.

Take note that the trailers will make the show feel very very exciting. This is what trailers are there for. Even the most boring TV shows/movies will have fantastic trailers to advertise them - a good trailer means very little.

Sorry, I was playing on the fact that it's been off the tv for so long, especially for a brand new show :p Thanks anyways for the info :D

Amanda Tapping only got that role because she had been contracted until a year after SG-1 ended so they had to do something with her. Sadly this meant they ousted Wier in favour of Carter then immediately replaced Carter with woolsey once her contract was up. I believe this was one of the many reasons why Atlantis stated to collapse from Season 3 onwards.

I couldn't stand weir in atlantis. Carter was much better imo.

It would have been interesting had Atlantis carried on what they would have done with ronon after the guy that played him got glassed in a bar and needed 140 stitches.

Ronan was played by Jason Mamoa.

EDIT: just checked and it would appear that Mamoa got involved in an incident at a bar, where somebody slashed him. He has since had reconstructive surgery.
