The New Stargate Universe Thread

I quite liked that episode... there must have been a better way to get back than cutting a hole in the ship though... they could have used it again, like by killing two birds with one stone and 'cremating' the shuttle that that old guy was in and using the bay there to land.

I also think there's more they could have done with the whole Rush situation... seem to have missed out on a chance there. They didn't really make clear how much time had passed, or how he had managed to somehow catch up to Destiny.

About a week had passed between Rush being stranded at the end of Justice and the start of Space according to Joseph Mallozzi (the guy who wrote the episode) on his blog.

I thought it was clear how he caught back up with Destiny :S. He managed to get inside the crashed ship, started poking around with it, set off a signal accidentally and the blue aliens then turned up to investigate, found him and abducted him as they knew he was from the ship as they'd been keeping track of it for a while (the ship that detaches at the end of Air was theirs). It was the blue aliens that caught up to Destiny as they knew where it was. He explains briefly what happened to him at the end of the episode in the mess hall.

Yeah, but if the blue aliens can go faster than Destiny then why do they want the ship? That would imply that they're more technologically advanced.

And i thought the ship that detached wasn't a 'Destiny Shuttle'? Since it was spherical and the one Matthew? was flying... wasn't.

The blue aliens are very very advanced.
The Destiny though appears to be in a class of its own. It can think almost like living being, doing what it needs to do to protect itself and its inhabitants.

The technology onboard the Destiny is mind blowing, but the Earthlings on board are not doing enough to investigate the entire ship (similar to Atlantis).

The blue aliens want Destiny...badly and are willing to risk a lot to attain it.

Isn't the story from the first 10 episodes that Destiny is actually quite slow - it set off 10,000 years ago to seed stargates, but by the time it got to the new galaxy the Ancients had already overtaken it with new technology (ZPN powered drives ala Atlantis?), so they just forgot about Destiny and it has been powering along at relatively slow speeds ever since. Of course by the time our heroes arrive on Destiny it has travelled an incredibly long distance.

Therefore it's plausible that the blue aliens have obtained the faster travel mechanism, but could still learn a lot from old ancient technology - including stargates I guess.

I agree, surely the logical thing to do would be to trade it for one of their ships so at least they're heading home. They can at least fly them and Rush is the only one that really appreciates Destiny.

Its never been said that they have more advanced ftl technology than the Destiny. Who knows how close the aliens were to Destiny when young had his 'hiccup'? They'd obviously been tracking it so i assume they weren't so far behind. Also the Destiny could have made some stop at various places during that week between Justice and Divided, plenty of time to catch up for the blue guys.

Destiny shuttle eh? I was pointing out the ship that detaches at the end of air, clearly an alien ship and we now know was one of the blue aliens ships, where did the shuttle come from :S.

As for why the aliens or for that matter anyone would want the Destiny. Think about it. Big alien ship in the middle of knowhere, unmanned, tempting target.

It's shields and weapons are obviously more advanced than what the blue guys have as they've never been able to board the ship, Rush explains this at the end of the episode, and how they wanted to find a way to bypass the ships automated defences.

The real treasure haul on the ship is the amount of data and the secrets it holds. Its travelled billions of light years, who knows what its encountered and what information its collected and for that matter whats was left on board by the ancients in the first place.

The Destiny set off hundreds of thousands if not millions of years old not 10,000 years ago, rushes statement of it being hundreds of thousands of years old in the pilot was a bit ambiguous.
It generally assumed that it predates Atlantis by several hundreds of thousands of years at least.
it travelled through Pegasus after it left the Milky Way (as shown in the pilot) so the most logical theory was that the ancients settled in Pegasus sometime later due to the Destiny having gone through it previously and seeded it with Stargates, and replacing it with the newer models. Rush also states that the technology on the ship predates the technology in Atlantis in the pilot.

http://www.gateworld.net/wiki/Ancient_timeline a full chronological timeline for the Ancients although that timeline does have some speculative times that are unconfirmed.

Atlantis left Earth for Pegasus several million years ago, and the ancients abandoned Atlantis in Pegasus 10,000 years ago.

man i remember random crap way to much -_-. At least its not as indepth as lost lol.

The Destiny may have been built many eons ago and may be slow. But it still has some technological gizmos that no other race has even come close to matching (bar the ASGard, of course ;)).

It would be logical to trade the Destiny for another ship supplied by the blue aliens, but by the looks of it, the blue aliens don't want to trade. They want to take by force. They are aggressive, they donot want to engage in conversation and their moto seems to be, "ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK!"

Indeed. The one word message they send in Space 'Surrender' seems to sum their motive up nice and clearly.

Still finding it pathetic to be honest, such cliched story lines that focus on copying story lines from other shows rather than making storylines that make sense for the situation.

Still finding the characters mostly unlikeable, I'm not actually pulling for them to get home, they've still done next to nothing in terms of taking control of the ship, its full of petty civilian vs military control, despite nothing actually sparking off a problem except they decided there should be conflict. Its very few people in the middle of nowhere, they should be sticking together but they've had the mostly completely painful civilian vs military control throughout the other stargate series, so insist on continuing with it.

I'm sorry, very bad with names, always have been, in real life and tv shows. The chinese bird, she's not a good actress, but her character, well, doesn't bring anything to the table, she's a complete moron of a character so why on earth would anyone support her trying to take control. Every decisions or idea she's had, has been terrible so why on earth is she in charge of the civilians in the first place, theres been no real diving into how she even became a leader or what the heck she does.

Theres just nothing for me that makes the show stand out, its the new 90210, in space, its a teen drama with weak ass story lines, with no originality, where characters flip flop every episode to suit the story with absolutely no strong, hugely likeable or stand out characters at all.

The fat kids supposed to be the funny one, but he's really not very funny, Rush is supposed to be the genius, but has got very little done and is just a pratt, the chinese bird is supposed to be a leader amongst her people, but is a dullard moron, and it goes on and on and on. Its the weakest most neutral bunch of boring characters you could get.#

It goes on and on, the bad guy whose not really bad, the good boss who does the odd bad thing, the cliched power hungry military guy trying to take control and the cliched power hungry civilian guy trying to take control.

It needs a bad guy whose actually bad, a funny guy whose actually funny, a genius whose a genius, and some original episodes.

THe latest ep, it just makes no sense at all, in any way.

Anyway, finally giving up, but I'd expect this to be canceled, and can't see them making a new stargate for a while.

Heh, nothing will ever beat SG1 simply because SG1 had these 2 people in it

He was'nt that bad in the movie! Jeez if he makes a new movie for SG1 he's gonna have to hit the weights :p

Or they can use some CGI on him / to replace him :D

Michael Shanks needs to find a good film or recurring TV role, he was great in both Burn Notice and Smallville when he did a few EPs there

Thats the point of the series, that its the wrong people there. They weren't those meant to go to the ship, it's not like SGA where they had a full expedition of the best and brightest

Camille Wray (The chinese bird) was a human resources person with the IOA (The civilian organisation in charge of the Stargate Program). before they got to the ship, she's not a natural leader. The fact that she was in HR kind of points to the fact as to why she has become a leadership figure for the civilian characters.

I thought some were pretty original tbh, Time, Darkness/Light for one.

Hes actually done quite a lot of episodes here and there in different TV series, problem is he tends to embody a role so well people don't recognise him at first heh.
