The New Stargate Universe Thread

It's picking up a bit but they still need to do some work with the characters.

They also need to stop doing the silly Lost-esque long drawn out emotive pieces with out of place background music. This is Stargate ffs!

It does seem a bit strange that they've going through 1.5 seasons and only now has any alien race been introduced. But actually they didn't seem that bad and it appears as though everyone got off the wrong foot. If RDA/O'Neil was there he could have charmed them to come around :D

I also wish Rush would tone down his perma-psychotic-scientist act a bit. He doesn't need to be like that all the time surely.

Eli was clearly one of those ideas at the beginning "lets have a computer geek act as the Sam Carter! yeah! YEAH! pub now?". It hasn't really worked out. He needs to be killed off.

Hehehe.

Atlantis had Dr McKay.
SG1 had Sam Carter
SGU has, erm, Eli.

Eli's character is no-mans land really. He can't compete against Rush and isn't good for much else.

I think his character needs to be suped up a little.

I disagree tbh i think hes proven his worth quite well so far.

Potential Spoilers for UK episodes

He saved everyone on the ship in the premiere by sticking his arm inside an active Stargate so they could get the stuff for the air filters back.
He took the initiative and used his hoverboard with the kinos as a sledge in water - allowing scott to be saved + easy transport of ice.
He calculated the math for saving the shuttle in Light, saving a dozen or so people.
He managed to catch Rush out in Justice
He made a little Kino camera used in Divided, helping to remove the transmitter.

If anything i think he's been under appreciated for whats hes done so far.

While he's not as brilliant as Carter or Mckay hes certainly a maths wiz and the handy inventor on the ship for stuff that could become invaluable.

Id imagine he will realise how much weight he carries on the ship (pardon the pun) as the series continues.

speaking on mcay i was the "cube" film the other day and its got an extremly young mckay in it i didnt even recognise his face! had to imdb the character to see who it was

Liking your choice of fav episodes sir! /me slams door in rypt's face

Best SG1 ep, i always liked Menace, the battle against the replicator while they are trying to cut through the door is very tense :D

with Reckoning being a close 2nd.

I must admit tho i one of the people that didn't like the last 2 season, the problem with the ori is that they spent far 2 long with the build up and should have had they invading some time about the mid season of 9 rather than the end of it.

Also by the end of 10 vala was REALLY starting to annoy me, she was great as a guess star but the constant joke were departmental to the stories they were trying to tell :(

I think Vala did well in some episodes as a character and had allot more depth to her than was immediately apparent, im mostly thinking of episodes like The Powers That Be and Beachhead which gave her some redemption and the stuff with her stuck on the Ori side of the lines (S10, Line in the Sand is a good one imo).

I think season 9 did a decent enough job of showing how the Ori were screwing up the people of the Galaxy (much more so than s10) and they did invade in a sense with the priors brainwashing people and their biological attack on earth in the mid season 2 parter.

I really liked the finale of Season 9 and how everyone got their asses severely kicked. It made for a nice change and really confirmed the fact that things wouldn't be won easily.

The jokes, its always been a part of SG1. Humor has kind of gone hand in hand since the start, although ill agree that its spoiled some story lines when they could have done without.

Also +1 for Window of Oppurtunity, it's up there alongside Lost City, Abyss, The Fifth Race and Meridian as my favourites.

Hehehe. I saw Cube, but don't remember him in it. I shall have to watch it again - I enjoyed that movie.

I'm shocked that 'The Fifth Race' hasnt been mentioned. This has to be in my top 3 SG1 episodes of all time.

I watched the last 3 seasons of SG1, back to back during the last week or so and the last 2 episodes of Season10 were exceptional.

Tbh i found that the really good sg1 episodes were either the really dramatic and dark ones or those that really went into the mythology of the show. Same with Atlantis.

Window of Oppurtunity is a special exception of course :P

I watched 'Window of Opportunity', again. And I honestly can't see anything special about it. I can't help feel that the reason why it is a fans' favourite is due to Jack being funny.

The production values of that episode looks a little low - its almost as if the episode was made, it didnt make the mark, however, they were lacking a 22nd episode so they decided to leave it in, as they didnt have any other decent episodes.

Anyway, each to their own, I guess.

Another good episode last night, this show might actually be starting to pick up at long last.

I wonder if we'll get to meet the star-builders though it's probably best if we don't simply because Stargate tends to not work well with incredibly powerful aliens.
