The New Stargate Universe Thread

After having seen it this far through, I wish they'd just given the budget to a new season of Atlantis :(

Is it just me that thought the last episode served no purpose whatsoever? I swear I've seen the Destiny firing drone weapons on one of Sky's trailers for the show so am expecting something, but for the love of god please do it soon as I am sooooo bored with the same old crap!

I quite like the show.

The acting is getting better and the characters at least feel a little bit more real to me.

If Rodney McKay was on that ship they would have all systems online already!

Thats the problem for me, although my GF really like Rodney I just found he was just a bit of an unbelieveable character.

I found most of the acting in Atlantis to be wooden and so universe brings something new to the table with some actual character development past those stupid hero scenes and wise crack comments.

Yes not much has happened, but they are actually setting up the series with believable behaviour. They have showers, they need to stop for supplies (which in an Alien environment is actually quite a hard thing to do), they strangely enough aren't all able to read alien languages or operate alien machinary at the drop of a hat, some struggle to move outside of their areas of expertise, some are experiencing psychological symptoms bordering paranoia.

All this is pretty real and its nice to see some development past the CG and costume design.

Plus it has shown me what a really good actor Robert Carlyle is.

Well this was another run of the mill episode again tbh. Next week we want them to go to a total water planet so they can get some fish for tea ;) - I mean we've had Sand Planet, Ice Planet need water and fire next eh.

I really can't face seeing the pilot again but wasn't Scott boffing someone in that episode? Was it the senator blokes daughter or some random air force woman?

Obvious things. Err use the stones to let people like Daniel/Rodney take over plebs on the ship - how many ancient warships/stuff etc did Rodney deal with in Atlantis etc.

I still don't get how they managed to only use a planets core to dial Destinty but fill up with energy from a Sun but still can't dial anywhere decent?

This. The whole episode was a borefest! When the credits rolled at the end I had a genuine 'WTF is that it' moment.

If the Destiny doesn't have a battle or they continue to visits planets of no interest soon... "I'm out"

Its starting to get like watching someone fixing a bsod on an old pc ... very very boreing

im going to give it 1.. maybe 2 more episodes... then im out

As someone said next week they'll need something else that can easily found on the dullest planet possible, fish in a water only planet next week. Soil for growing food which will send them to a planet thats just a plain old field they can shoot anywhere.

Lets spend all our budget on the ship, which is only like 5 different rooms, all dark, pointless and boring and lets not let them explore the ship more anytime soon or get the thing working, because we'll have to spend more money on the ship. Despite having a tiny tiny ship which couldn't have cost much, lets skimp out on the stargate stuff aswell and spend no money at all on set's.

Personally I don't think any of the actors are very good, since Hamish MacBeth(IIRC) and Begby he hasn't done much of anything good and don't think he's any good in this.

Theres absolutely nothing interesting about it, story, awful, premise well we don't have a clue what it is yet, long term fighting someone, traveling from one star to another till they all die of old age, ship breaks down and they have to build themselves a home somewhere. Well lets be honest, we're all praying something happens because if they stay on the ship it will be the more boring show in a long time.

Character exploration is shallow and pointless, every back to earth communication, different commander on board, diary entry to a video camera has been awful, absolutely terrible.

It's not getting any more exciting is it?! I was hoping we might see the beginning of a plot line with the grains of sand thingies, but no, they just shoved them onto a planet - although I guess they might not have got all of them. But either way they've got to come up with a better challenge than just, "I'm hungry", "I'm thirsty" or "I need a shower"; maybe we could have an intelligent civilisation or two soon please?!

The writers seem to have tried to take the style of in-depth character exploration that BSG used (but was much better written) but forgot to add the cool battles in there

What has annoyed me the most about this so far is that a couple of these episodes could have easily been condensed down into a single episode, allowing for more interesting things to arise earlier on.

Either that, or start explaining what they're actually encountering. No mention of the odd "spirits" in Air, no investigation into what the lifeform was in Water, no further mention of the two guys who left the planet in Air.

It's a very stop-start series so far, which is odd considering that their situation remains pretty consistent. It's not like these events are months apart, they seem to have forgotten what has happened only a week ago :/

I'm still liking it, but the oh this has broke we'll fix it in one episode is getting old fast. Rush, Eli. Need to make a break though and learn how to use the computer systems and fast.

the shows doing well in America though, i guess they are not going for the usual sci-fi audience.
personally i like the new format bet a lot of you would still whine if they kept to the old formula of fighting aliens each week.

Hmmm, Skyplayer has just allowed me to watch this weeks episode at long last but I'm now getting a weird sense of deja-vu.

Let's see, barren wasteland planet, check, quest to find material which at first appears to be present in abundance yet requires a trek miles from the gate to get a pure sample, check, weird shadowy sand creature, check.

The SG1 eps where the team visited a planet full of white nekkid humanoids who couldn't speak, was quite literally more enthralling then all the episodes of SG:U aired so far.

hehe, its doing well for a Friday night in america, and compared to its biggest rival in the timeslot which is Dollhouse, which is god damned awful. its far from doing well though.

Its dropping week by week afaik, is almost down to 1.5mil which isn't great. But considering the previous succesful series you've got an awful lot of people, like us thinking its utter tripe but watching in the hope it picks up and gets better like previous series. But those viewers will keep evapourating, unless something pretty drastic changes in terms of things happening in the series beyond the dull crap we've had, it won't get a second series.

even the sg1 recap episodes were they used 90% footage from the last few episodes had more entertainment value
