The New Stargate Universe Thread

hehe, its doing well for a Friday night in america, and compared to its biggest rival in the timeslot which is Dollhouse, which is god damned awful. its far from doing well though.

Dollhouse is so much better than this though. Testing storylines that actually make you think. This is just cookie cutter sci-fi ripping off it's predecessors so far. Unfortunately that will always appeal to the greater market (especially as it has 2 previously successful shows feeding into its fanbase.

I like the show and see its potential, a few of the characters are alright and im interested to see whats up with rush, however was it just me or did it seem like the writers just basically copied almost the exact formula from air over to their water script?

I know so far it's been about getting resources as things are running low but these two episodes we're the same in many ways, in one the air was running low, now watter is running low, both teams couldn't get what they needed near the gate even though it was essentially available right there just impure, both had a sand alien, both had someone nearly die, both were extremes of temperature, uh anything else?

I enjoy the show though and don't like to nitpick, as long as its reasonably entertaining, but yeah it definitely needs to be different next week or its getting a bit much.

Having watched the promo for the next episode it looks like things might be taking a turn towards the traditional SG1/SGA style episode: weapons fire, an explosion and something funky happening to the gate. I'll tune in to watch that one just to get a feel for the rest of the season.

Gotta say though going by the previous episodes I was plesantly surprised to see that none of the upcoming episodes are called "Food" or something where they have to walk several KM from the gate to pick some berries to eat

Even though there would be an apparent abundance of fruit just beside the gate yet due to them being poisonous the crew would have to venture forth a few clicks to get edible berries. Someone would also nearly die.

Was so disapointed last night when Scott didn't die, such a bloody predictable ending. Young should have left him there vindicating Rush's stance on the matter.

Well i think its got past all of the elemental titled episodes (Air, Water, Light, Darkness etc) so we should be getting some episodes with more of a sci fi twist to them. Earth, Time and Life which are next up look to have more of a typical sg1/sga twist to them from the descriptions on gateworld.

the next one is called "earth" and from the plot summary available it sounds like another boring episode.

i think i heard after episode 10 its on a break until next summer aswell.

soon we will have had a 6-7 boring episodes , i can see it getting cancelled if a break really happens after episode 10

At that stage the decision to renew the show or not would probably have been made and the second season gearing up for production. The only effect poor figures at that point might have would be a reduction in episodes for season 2.

Of course this is all only conjecture but season 2 does look like a strong probability at this stage.

they need to move it along, as they've had their arriving crises, i'm a big fan of stargate, but am getting abit restless, they need to have some action in it, something that the viewers can get fired up on.

The SG1 eps where the team visited a planet full of white nekkid humanoids who couldn't speak, was quite literally more enthralling then all the episodes of SG:U aired so far.

Were the white nekkid humanoids The Nox? If so that was one of my favourite episodes, or at least ending to an episode.

Thought this weeks episode was totally predictable, the only redeeming feature was that at least one person actually gave a damn when that soldier died at the end.

Yeah, if all you knew about next weeks episode was the name (Earth) you might guess it had something to do with food or them needing soil to grow food, of course the soil near the gate would be wrong so they have to go walk for ages to find some that's ok.

No, the Nox iirc were a small family of magical like recluses who lived in a forest that SG1 tried to hunt Aphosis down in. The main head of the Nox family was the chap who played Quark in Trek: DS9, or Principle Snider in Buffy :p

I often think it would have been cool if towards the later seasons of sg1 and atlantis they went back to visit some of these interesting planets from the first few seasons like the nox, tollans or those evil aschen to see if they were sucked up by a black hole from the fake gate address database sg1 gave them lol.

When you think how far they've come over the seasons in technological terms and stuff, what would these races now think? arguably they have the most advanced technology and knowledge in the known galaxy now, although not a whole planet's resources to back that up, they also should take a look to see what damage or improvement they've made on all these old planets they've meddled with, as they have done some serious things in their time! :p

Have I missed the episode that they run out of loo paper & have to go to Planet Andrex where they chase an alien puppy some distance from the stargate ? or will that be kept for the season finale ?

If the pace doesn't pick up soon I'll be watching the adverts & fast forwarding the program :(

There's nothing wrong with the pace, it's just that it's amazingly repetitive. At $2mil per episode they're really not maximizing the potential. I hope they do something different soon, and while i accept that their priority is making sure that they can live there for a while they could do it in different ways. They should get round to fixing the ship at some point too.
