The new tomb raider game

I've got it and the patch made quite a bit of difference to the framerate.

The game is good but has some flaws too:

So far, too many cutscene sequences. The "Dragon's Lair" control in the cutscenes is not something we want in a modern game, and adds nothing to the gameplay.

The AI is terrible. You can run up to someone and shoot them in the face and they won't move.

The save/checkpoint system can be a PITA.

I haven't played much but I'm hoping for some larger levels, with lots of puzzles and lots of exploration as per TR1/TR2, not these small levels with console action and cutscene crap.

As I said, not played much yet but to me It's like a 7.5 out of 10 so far.

I must say I like the checkpoint system- gets you out of the 'take one step forward then quicksave - repeat' mentality.

And OMG the bike chase I just came across. Cooooool.

I got this today and I can't get it to run... keeps crashing/freezing with a sound loop.

9800 Pro with Cat 5.10s
Soundblaster Live 5.1 (last driver available is dated 2004 )

What are you guys managing to run this on? I'm close to taking it back as I'm well above the minimum specs. I updated the drivers for the 9800 to Cat 6.3s but I couldn't enable DirectDraw for some reason so I've reverted back to 5.10s.

Will there be any value in upgrading my soundcard too?

Ta much. :)

Methinks you need to update your graphics card drivers, and possibly running the directx exe on the disk in case you are missing any drivers. I have 'a notch up' on you, 9800XT and Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS and it plays like a dream (no next-gen of course).

Edit: If you can't enable DirectDraw then reinstalling DirectX is a must.

You've got the gold? Give us a clue where to look for it?

The only bit I think I haven't worked out it where you pull a book trolley off the wall, and the odd brown and silver from the gym.

If i remember rightly..you have to get a certain number of other clues solved before clues for the gold become apparent. Sorry, not much help..but i think it had something to do with the pictures on the walkways above the main hall in the house.

Im stuck cannot for the love of god get past the part where the floor collapse underneath u and it does the video. First you have too press up and she climbs the statue (falling one), then what looks like up again to jump on ledge above but lara just leeps across the holds onto lower ledge then falls.. any pointers  image below

nevermind did it :p :D

I totally agree. Maps are small. Plus theres only about 8 or something. The original games I think had double that amount. Not enough puzzles or exploration. You think you get to an interesting bit and it turns into an "interactive" cutscene that a 3 year old could do  If I wanted any of that crap I'd watch one of the films. I think the level thats impressed me most so far in the new game is probably Croft Manor - It's much fun and crammed full of content, and no buttmunch constantly badgering you down a headset.

OK I am obviously crap at this game, everyone is saying how easy it is. WTF do you do at the end of bolivia when you run across the bridge with the helicopter shooting at you?

If anybody is running Crossfire then ive just done some testing:

Renaming the .EXE to TRAOD may enable AFR Rendering

Not sure of any performance increase as ive not tested it fully, but the graphical corruption i was getting on the Splashcreen logo and intro are now fixed and it runs smooth

:)

Thanks. I 've been unable to get any Cats to work. What ones are you using? - I'll use them as a start point. :)

Thanks for the help.
