Anyone contemplating a 360 v PC version purchase like I was then please take note:::

if you have anything better or equal to my 6800gt's in sli then go for the pc version, i have had both versions (demos) running side by side and the pc version absolutely spanks the 360 one, I wish I could get some screens up the pc version makes the 360 look like a PS2,, bit dissapointed really as I would have preffered the 360 version myself.. getting 60fps average on pc, the 360 looks terrible and struggles with the framerate :(

Thats quite strange as i did the same and the 360 version looked much better

The PC demo doesnt run the next gen content while the 360 demo does. I actually have both versions of the full game (although my 360 version is currently waiting at local post office). I'll be able to do a comparison of the 360 and PC full versions tomorrow. Certainly the full PC game running the next gen content looks very nice indeed (I've been playing it most of tonight). Unfortunately the PC version running the next gen content also suffers from terrible framerate problems, so its not limited to the 360. In fact its been stated that in general the 360 copes with the game better than a PC running the next gen content. I'll find out tomorrow.

What resolution were you running the PC demo at ? Were you running the 360 demo on a HDTV or monitor ? I was running at 1680 x 1050 in comparision to my 360's 1280 x 768. There's no doubting that the PC demo did look sharper due to the increased resolution, but it was quite obvious that items and effects were missing in comparison to the 360 version.

The difference is quite substantial I cant see how you thought the 360 version was better  I was running both side by side using a hd sammy and a 19'' tft, I can switch both systems to use both displays and can clearly see the pc version is absolutely miles better than the 360 one, Ill try to get some pics up later. The 360 version lacks so much detail of the pc one, I stood at an exact same spot on both systems and on the pc version has extra foliage everywhere which was much better detailed and crisp also all the rock detail was clearly visible every lump and bump (as well as lara's, lol). The 360 version in comparison seems like evrything is blurred or dumned down theres no definition to any edges..like I said, dissapointing as i was really hoping for a good show from the 360 :(

I got this today and I can't get it to run... keeps crashing/freezing with a sound loop.

9800 Pro with Cat 5.10s
Soundblaster Live 5.1 (last driver available is dated 2004 )

What are you guys managing to run this on? I'm close to taking it back as I'm well above the minimum specs. I updated the drivers for the 9800 to Cat 6.3s but I couldn't enable DirectDraw for some reason so I've reverted back to 5.10s.

Will there be any value in upgrading my soundcard too?

Ta much. :)

Sorry this is the best I can do at the mo, this is taken with a cheap camera and the quality is poor but you can still see the pc version,(lower) has much more definition and detail, eg, check out her belt guns, also face detail in pc version is much better you can clearly make out eyes lips, but 360 version her face is a bit of a blur,,hopefully someone can put up some proper shots,, :)

What you are seeing is the difference between next gen and non next gen content. The PC version with next gen content looks much more like the 360 images you posted. Look at the difference in the textures on the rock and cliffs and the plant life in the two versions in the pictures you have posted. More complex plants, and better textures in the 360 version. Look at the differences in the waterfall and the vine in the first two pictures you posted. Your pictures of Lara's face (although the 360 one isnt all that clear) would show bump mapping, and better lighting effects on the 360 version rather than the flat shading used on Lara's face in the demo PC version image.

I've picked up my 360 version now and other than resolution i can confirm that there isnt that much difference with both systems running the next gen content. In fact i'd say the 360 holds a far more consistant framerate.

Yeah I agree with you that the 360 version has HDR lighting implimented, you can clearly see it illuminating lauras face in the second 360 shot, but to sacrifice this for such a poor undifined blurred overall image quality and slow framerate seems a bit much, also im sure that if you had a PC machine capable of running the next gen options then it would add the HDR to the already clear sharp images it can display and not make it so blurred like the 360 version looks, also most of the rocks in the 360 version dont show bump mapping in fact they seem to be shaded very dark along with most of the scenery/background and therefore have no features on them at all. :)

Im running the PC version with the next gen content and the two systems look almost identical. As i mentioned if anything the 360 holds a more consistant framrate than my pc does and my PC isnt too bad a machine.

I can see why some people would prefer the cleaner images that the non next gen version gives as i think the blur that you mention is a side effect of enabling that content. All im saying is that with the next gen content on the PC suffers from all the same bonuses and problems that the 360 version does.

*edit* LOL, i've sat and looked at the start of the Bolivia level for a couple of minutes on both versions. There are some marginally better textures on the PC version and i do agree that there is slightly more blur in the distance on the 360 version. That being said though for the most part they are very similar and i also wasnt comparing at the same resolution, with the PC at 1650 x 1050 which more than likely would have sharpened the PC image up some what :) Actually i'll tell you where i can see the biggest difference between the versions, and thats on the menu screen with 360 Lara looking distinctly non next gen in comparison to the PC menu Lara (although the PC menu can be very slow which is possibly why they didnt do this for the 360). Anyway none of this really matters.

Regardless im very happy with both versions :). Im off to enjoy playing it :)

spec as in sig now though now clocked at 2.75 (giving 8000 in 3dmk06).

(lower resolution has little effect on FPS & no AA gives extra 2 FPS -wow)

1 cpu / 1 graphics card -All effects =20fps

2 cpu / 2 graphics cards -All effects =20fps

2 cpu / 2 graphics cards -All effects on except next gen content =96fps

Check out the higher res textures with next-gen on (could post more screenies to show).
The game obviously does not take advantage of multi-threading or 2 graphics cards as older games like COD2/Quake4 do.
A 64bit version would help as well as good programming.
I've seen the 360 version in the shops on an LCD & it looks to have blurred textures (like the PC with no next-gen) but with excessive HDR. I have
I tried the 1.1 update & found no difference, I'd guess its just an attempt to kerb the use of copied versions with extra protection.

Farcry on the 360 & the textures are really low res -like playing an xbox1, the water is good though, the 64bit PC version with HDR+5km view distance is far superior !

HOLD IT, SORRY!! I have to make an apology, ive just tried running the 360 version through VGA on my sammy and it now looks great, still not as clear as pc but very good,, When I first got my 360 I had it running on a 19''tft via VGA and only had one game PGR3, I managed to save up enough to get this sammy hdtv and everything I read said component red green blue was the best connection so thats how I had it running up till now, Wrydo's post over in the console forum made me try the VGA on my sammy and its made a world of difference, everything is now clearer and defined and it has the hdr as well :) :) I honestly didnt think a connection lead would make so much difference, I know it didnt on PGR3, it just made the colours a bit darker..SORRY :o Just got one more prob now, because my sammy only has one VGA and I was using it for my pc connection, gonna have to keep reaching round now to swap leads,, is there a VGA splitter available..

Im running on my LCD Tele via an official VGA cable, thats possibly why it was initially looking a bit different to us both :)

yeah, believe me it does make quite a difference, I thought composite was supposed to be the best connection  Cant wait to try out oblivion tonight on vga, been playing that on composite up till now aswell. :)

I've got it and the patch made quite a bit of difference to the framerate.

The game is good but has some flaws too:

So far, too many cutscene sequences. The "Dragon's Lair" control in the cutscenes is not something we want in a modern game, and adds nothing to the gameplay.

The AI is terrible. You can run up to someone and shoot them in the face and they won't move.

The save/checkpoint system can be a PITA.

I haven't played much but I'm hoping for some larger levels, with lots of puzzles and lots of exploration as per TR1/TR2, not these small levels with console action and cutscene crap.

As I said, not played much yet but to me It's like a 7.5 out of 10 so far.
