The Newcastle United Club Thread **No Spoilers**

An nether does the Noon deal so why bring it up?
 You brought up the Sports Direct deal and questioned why nobody had a problem with it, not me! I simply pointed out why nobody had a problem with it:confused:

There will however be people believing that the Noon deal does break rules and there will also be people that have a problem with it due to sports washing. The latter is obviously true and the former could be - I'm not sure whether the value of the deal has yet been ratified by the PL yet.

Yep the sportswashing part is undoubtedly true, and I don’t think the club will have announced the deal of it wasn’t signed off by the PL.
I was pointing out to omnomnom the twitter post he shared, that nobody had a problem with the related party sponsorship when Ashley was raping the club, now it’s reversed everyone’s up in arms.

Similarly, you were up in arms when you felt Ashley was raping the club but have no problem when the situation is reversed now. You can't have your cake and eat it woppy.

edit: as for the deal, I really have no idea exactly how the PL monitor these transactions. If they do it in real time then the deal would have gone to the PL and been approved or changed and then approved. However if the PL monitor them retrospectively then the PL will look at whatever Newcastle have agreed and then discount it down to a value they see as fair when the accounts are submitted.

I’m not having my cake and eating it, is the Saudis owning Newcastle sportswashing? Yes it is 1000% and can’t and would be stupid to try to argue otherwise(learned my lesson on that one) . But I will argue with people that now link twitter posts that it’s not fair/against PL rules for related party transactions, when we Geordies we’re told that “it’s Mike Ashley’s club and if he wants to use it as an advertising tool” he can.

With reference to the deal I’m sure we will find out how it’s done at a later date. It was Kieron Maguire that reported it was £7.5m a season, I am dubious about that amount as it would be £1.5m above our main shirt sponsorship, so don’t see how they would get that though as “fair value”

Complaining that somebody criticises one but ignores the other, while you've criticised one and ignored the other is having your cake and eating it. Either way, you need to learn to either accept or ignore the criticism before it consumes you.

And I believe Maguire (who is an accountant, not a journalist) claimed pre deal that Newcastle were looking for that much not that this is the value of the deal.

All the reported figures are for £7.5m, but as I said I’m taking that with a pinch of salt as that would be more than our shirt sponsorship

There's no FFP benefit, in fact it will negatively effect you from a FFP point of view as you'll be paying interest on any borrowings. There was absolutely nothing stopping your owners putting cash into the club either as equity or an interest free loan instead of borrowing it from the bank.

Yeah makes no sense. Gone from the worlds skintest billionaire to the worlds skintest trillionaires. :D

Its a good piece that. The big money takeovers are not the same as they once were. I think Newcastle are doing it right with the spending and it seems sensible, although I think we are short on firepower up front and have some limited midfielders beyond the first 11.
One of the many (valid) criticisms of Ashley was the club revenue and commercial deals. Swiss Ramble points it out well. He outsourced the club shop via Sportsdirect and the stadium advertising of SD was presumably feeless or at best very cheap. That plus the fact the team were turgid to watch didn't attract much corporate interest. We saw what happened when he "sold" the stadium naming rights to SD.
On the other hand he made the tickets cheap and fans locked themselves into excellent deals over long periods of time. Contrast that to the 90's when the club was still winning nowt but had the highest average ticket price outside of London. Cant have it both ways.

Hopefully some investment in the training facilities and academy can reap some financial rewards, along with some higher placed finishes can increase that revenue over time. Remains to be seen how they test the waters with a stadium sponsorship and how quickly the pitchforks come out.

It's going to take a long time to grow the club to where we want it to be, most Newcastle fans realise this and look at incremental improvements on and off the pitch over time as success. Consolidating a top ten finish this year is good progress that I think most would be happy with. Unfortunately those that shout loudest and knackers on twitter and the like help make us look like unrealistic morons. But that's nothing new!

All of the above. :)

Still quite a chunk of money that can be spent but we are refusing to blow it in one or two windows.

Hopefully we can start to cement our position in the top half of the table then start to push.

My only problem is if we don't progress quick enough Bruno will be gone.

He's clearly miles ahead of our current squad.

I hope with stadium sponsorship the fan groups get some say. With the choice being cheaper ST + sponsorship or increased ticket prices.

Club + fans get what they want then.

Obviously you can't please everyone but at least the majority do.
