**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

A 980 should fly. Something not right on your end mate. Maybe even try to re-install your OS

There's a few folks on the NVIDIA forum with a similar issues on the 353.30 drivers. I would recommend 353.06 or 352.12.

Either use the 353.38 and if you are, try the 350.12 which are recommended GTA drivers

I've tried.. in this order 353.30 , 353.06 and 350.12, all seem to have issues :o

353.30 made the game feel choppy, 353.06 kept bringing up "The driver has stopped responding and has recovered" and 350.12 keeps crashing GTA when running in DX11, the only way to stop it is to drop down to DX 10.1

I thought Nvidia had amazing problem free drivers? :p

There usually fine ,but some are having issues on the last 3 driver releases. My Titan X is stutter free. All runs butter smooth

Whatever the reason, your machine doesn't seem stable. If you're not getting a debug code I would continue to troubleshoot the machine. Game runs fine here and for many others.

EDIT: more importantly try .38 hotfix.

Cheers, I'll try the .38 hotfix now. My CPU was stable with my AMD stuff, so I can't see why it would be unstable with the Nvidia tech? If the problems persist I'll have to investigate further.

Is it safe to use DDU to uninstall Nvidia drivers & associated software without going through the Control Panel > Programs and Features (Windows 7) method of removal?

DDU in safemode is the best option by far, it cleans out any and all remnants of the drivers

Your lockup doesn't sound CPU related, no. Although uncore can cause that sort of instability - I would still presume a GPU related issue. Troubleshooting 101 however, if in doubt go back to stock ;)

Fair comments.

But personally I'd rather try and get to the bottom of a problem myself. Though if all else fails, then a re-install might be something to try :)

reinstalls are for noobs :D

real men trouble shoot
I've switched from an AMD 7970 to a GTX 980 as of this weekend.

I uninstalled my AMD drivers then used DDU to remove all traces. Turned PC off, removed 7970 and installed GTX 980, then turned on and installed the 'latest' Nvidia drivers off the site..

GTA V feels a bit choppy tbh, which I can't understand as I'm only at 1920x1200 res, and I've had one hard lock up at desktop where the image on the screen froze which doesn't scream CPU OC instability to me.

Thoughts?
How much system memory do you have? 8gb and gtav5 will happily use 2-3gb page file as well.

I had my page set to 2gb and got a warning from windows saying I was running out of memory and gtav would close so upped my virtual memory to 4gb.

never had an issue with my 280x only happened when I plugged in my 980ti and maxed out gtav so don't go blaming the gpu if you only have 8gb ram and your pagefile is on a hdd

I have 8 GB of DDR3 1600, are you saying I need 16?

Pagefile? No idea.. I don't mess with that stuff, I have Windows 7 and GTA running off my Samsung Pro 256 SSD.

page file is virtual memory written to your hardrive/ssd once you run out of physical memory. (like your brain running out of space for memories and you storing them on paper or something instead, obviously accessing these memories would be far slower especially at times when the game might need to be taking the paper from you to load more stuff)

obviously hardrives and even ssds are miles slower than proper ram so if your pc starts to depend on the page file it can cause stuttering.

very few games need more than a pc with 8gb of memory but a few such as GTAV have started to appear

Your page file size is probably managed by windows by default which tends to be much larger than it needs to be and setting it manually to a fixed size may ease the stuttering.

Right click "my computer" on your desktop.
Go to properties > on the new window click "advanced system settings"
Now on the "advanced tab" select where it says "settings" underneath performance
Click yet another "advanced tab"
Click "Change" under where it says "virtual memory"
Click "custom size" and try 6144minimum - 6144maximum and press OK
(never disable your page file even if you have 1terabyte of ram, some programs depend on it)
If at any time windows warns you that you are running out of memory whilst your are playing a game just add another 1024 or so mb to the number (1024mb = 1gb)

going to 16gb of ram would be better but pagefiile usage may not be the cause of your stuttering, it is however the most likely cause.

The higher settings in GTAV the more system ram it will use.
If you used the exact same settings in GTAV as with your old video card maybe you won't get stuttering and you can conclude that the reason is the game would ideally like more system ram.

also the more programs you have open and running in the background obviously the less physical memory you have for gaming

most minimisezed to system tray programs still use 10-20mb each.

an open browser like firefox is around 300mb

BTW although they shouldn't any programs that monitor your fps or card sensors like fraps, afterburner etc can cause stuttering but it's unlikely so you might want to exit all of them and see if it goes away

Today we released a new Hotfix driver that addresses the following issue:

Sony Vegas Pro crashes

In addition, this driver also includes the same fixes which were part of our previous 353.38 hotfix driver release:

Chrome Crashes/Freezes/TDRs

Delays when starting or switching apps & games with GSYNC enabled
