**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

DX12 support is doubtful for 7.

Can't agree with 10 being much better, there is some good stuff but some serious negatives compared to 7 as well.

Well I won't derail the thread with more questions, but I don't agree.

Suffice to say - Had Titan X SLI for 10 months in conjunction with Windows 10 (Insider preview prior to official release) and not had an issue with a game not working or crashing.

Gaming wise generally it isn't a problem - though even there the forced restart for updates can and has caused issues with people playing games like eve online for instance.

The problems most realise with windows 10 are not related to games, but other software that most rely on for their work. Games performance from 7/8.1 to 10 is no difference but of course with 10 being so new people are having some compatibility issues with their drivers and hardware and Windows 10 is just all the time running updates to fix its issues too. I tried it and went back to 7 64bit ultimate as I noticed my work applications suffered in some cases as they clearly required patching to work right with windows 10 without having to use a compatibility mode just to make them work.

I will be going back to windows 10 once they fix the issues or newer versions of the software I use comes out stating they are compatible with windows 10.

So far there are no DX12 games and by that time they do appear hopefully windows 10 will be as reliable as windows 7. For now regarding DX12 on windows 7 there will be a version of DX11.3 for it at some point, currently windows 7 is on DX11.1 and windows 8.1 is on DX11.2 but both will get DX11.3 which is most of the DX12 features minus the overhead reductions that DX12 brings from what they have told us.

I've had zero issues with software compatibility on 10. I'd say that should be down to the developer of the software tbh if they still haven't got it working, 10 has been out in some form or another for over a year now.

Running W10 here but can't blame anyone for still using 7 and 8.1 if they are happy with it. Took me a long time to switch to 8.1. 10 is very snappy though and apart from Microsoft downloading a patch that meant my games played in 3D red and cyan, all been great thus far.

I've not had too much problem with mainstream software but some people will for instance still be running older printers, etc. that may no longer be supported and lacking Windows 10 compatibility and I still use a fair bit of software i.e. older game modding tools (that will never get updated) that just about work in Windows 7 but flatout refuse to play ball in 10 - some of them I could probably run in a 7 VM inside 10 but others that would cause other issues due to hardware access requirements.

Personally my major issues with it though (now they've finally added some tweaks to start menu functionality) are the way Windows Update* works which has made my experience absolute hell especially with my latest Windows 10 tablet and that the UI looks messy and disorganised lacking the polish and cohesion of 7 - which isn't an insignificant aspect when you spend a good bit of the day looking at the OS.

The fact that the UI is buggier than 7 doesn't help as well - not infrequently get the start menu being temperamental or explorer taking a long time to complete simple tasks or just not responding properly in some cases requiring a fresh install of the OS every few months to get it back to working properly and the whole privacy thing though largely a non-issue still causes more problems than anything useful especially as I have to make sure after any update that they haven't added yet another thing I'd feel more comfortable with disabled and/or not reverted old settings.

* Also starting to become a problem where systems will be doing windows update stuff or even uploading windows update to other users - a few systems have come with it enabled by default to upload on the internet for some reason causing problems for people trying to play games online (or even stream movies without frequent buffering if a few people are online at the same time) at the same time - we try as a household to do Windows Updates and other large downloads overnight to minimise the effect on other people and the forced nature of Windows Update in 10 undoes all that - might be able to mitigate it a bit with QoS but might have to take the drastic step of blocking any connections to MS servers during daytime hours at router level.

Ran 10 for a while on my last system and found it ok. Only back on 7 now as i built the new setup and had to do a fresh windows installation. So far though havent went ahead with installing 10 again.

Another thing ive noticed since installing theese latest drivers, my nvidia control panel is much snappier now. When i first got this monitor i found the control panel to be a bit slow to load or display menus.

After having just played an hour of Rise of the Tomb Raider with everything possible maxed bar FXAA instead of SSAA at 1440p.
can honestly say the game looks breath taking, and runs rather well. SLI scaling still needs work, and the lowest fps I've seen was 48 for a split second. The rest ranged from 76 average in the snow areas, to 90+ in the Temple ruins.
Although there are some random drops to mid 60's at time for no apparent reason. I think that might be the SLI scaling bungling up.

The Hair effects, along with lighting and particle effects are simply beautiful!
