**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Anyone finding high CPU usage when visiting the driver download page on https://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers ? as soon as I go to that page in any browser my CPU usage jumps to 66%

Just tried the page and it's fine. (Firefox)

The orange bars bottom right on the screen show CPU usage.

Most likely this will be a FF issue. I see occasionally massive ram usage. Only 3-4 tabs open and ram usage 4Gb+.

This then causes CPU spikes which manifest themselves as lag in the UI.

Memory leak in my case.

397.31 has major issues with the 1803 Win 10 update if you have a HDTV you must go via HDMI cable & not Display Port otherwise the display is corrupt.

This is similar to the years old bug around limited vs full 0-255 colour space bug but made way worse now as Win 10 insists on auto trying to correct it leaving you with a corrupt unreadable display!

Also for HDR you still need an active HDMI 1.4 or newer DRM motherboard onboard connector otherwise HDR will not enable even if you have a HDR GPU & Display you must have the onboard HDMI 1.4 video output present otherwise it refuses to enable which is so lame & it forces you onto an Intel based HDMI1.4 motherboard (cutting AMD out of the equation for HDR right now!).

I'm doubtful about the HDMI/HDR explanation you have posted there. It makes no sense.

As for the geforce website issue, no problems here at all. You have a broken addon or something.

I tried chrome, opera and edge with the same on each, wondering if it's a driver version issue? Had the windows update installed driver at the time, not seeing the issue now

I agree it makes no sense its totally bonkers! but here are the requirements direct from MS. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4040547
"The Windows 10 device needs to have an integrated graphics card that supports PlayReady hardware digital rights management (for protected HDR content), and it must have the required codecs installed for 10-bit video decoding. (For example, devices that have a 7th Generation Intel Core processor, code-named Kaby Lake, support this.)" This means any AMD based motherboard without that intergrated GPU slot on the motherboard is excluded from HDR until or if ever AMD can get their CPU's certified for the HDR DRM. Sheer insanity & excludes a lot of people from HDR on PC yet Xbox1X uses AMD & is HDR capable & even has native UHD playback from disc!

Yay DRM that lovely easy to get on with protection system that just makes trying to use all that expensive hardware you just purchased so pleasant and easy to use.

Its so bizarre in the end I gave up & bought a high end 4K UHD player just to legally play 4K discs I own as PC does not seem to want to support the 4K HDR market at all unless you only buy Intel hardware

I think there still is only a single Internal Japanese drive you can buy to play 4k blu rays

Just gone from AMD to Gigabyte G1 GTX1080. Ive installed the latest drivers but I can't change the led colour on the card. Im using the Aorus graphics engine app but it doesnt make any difference.

Is there a bug in this app?

Installed 391.35 and all is good :)

Yeah its like they want to see UHD/4K and HDR dead :( even just getting 4K playback on sites like Netflix, etc. is a pain.

You're quoting the wrong bit from the link. You need to be looking at the EXTERNAL DISPLAYS section at the bottom.

To play streaming high dynamic range (HDR) video in Windows 10, your external display and Windows 10 PC needs to support HDR. To find the specifications for a specific PC or external display, visit the device manufacturer’s website. Here are the requirements:

  • The HDR display or TV must support HDR10, and DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 or higher. We recommend displays that are DisplayHDR certified.
  • The Windows 10 PC needs to have a graphics card that supports PlayReady 3.0 hardware digital rights management (for protected HDR content). This could be any of the following graphics cards: NVIDIA GeForce 1000 series or higher, AMD Radeon RX 400 series or higher, or Intel UHD Graphics 600 series or higher. We recommend a graphics card that supports hardware-accelerated 10-bit video decoding for HDR video codecs.
  • The Windows 10 PC must have the required codecs installed for 10-bit video decoding (for example, HEVC or VP9 codecs).
  • We recommend that you have the latest WDDM 2.4 drivers installed on your Windows 10 PC. To get the latest drivers, go to Windows Update in Settings, or check your PC manufacturer's website.

That is for streaming ONLY though! For 4K Disc HDR playback & PC HDR gaming you need the PlayReady 3.0 Intel onboard HDMI connector which is why this is so crazy & bizarre a hardware requirement. HDR on PC is a real mess thanks to Intel's cartel stranglehold over the IT industry.

Just got my RMA replacement for my strix 980Ti....a 1070 Strix. Boosts to 2025mhz out of the box, is this on the better end of the scale?

Also besides a little performance bump am I gaining any other features moving from the 9xx series to the 10xx series?
