**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

v398.82 broke G-Sync for me. It says it is enabled but you can clearly tell from gaming that it is not as smooth as it was. Also tried the Nvidia pendulum test to verify :(

What driver is everyone using for G-Sync? I'm currently on 398.36 but it is not as smooth as I remember with slight stutters.

Have you tried doing this

Control panel -> system and security -> system -> advanced system settings (on the left) -> hardware -> device installation settings -> select no

worked for me and windows hasnt updated my drivers since

That setting no longer works to stop driver updates in Windows 10 - for some reason some people still get the legacy behaviour.

The only way to block a specific update is blacklisting it and even then after one of the bigger updates 10 will ignore that and update the driver anyhow.

Don't know if it is relevant but if I have Chrome browser open on my second screen(non gsync), which is usually playing a youtube video, whilst playing Elite Dangerous in borderless window on the main gsync screen, I get stuttering. However, if I use Edge instead of Chrome Elite is as smooth as silk. Something to do with the way Chrome uses hardware acceleration apparently. Don't know if it is directly related to gysnc, or whether it applies to other games, but may be worth trying if using the second screen for youtube while playing games.

I have the exact same problem. Remains even if I close Chrome. Opening it just once and then trying to play Overwatch = major performance issues and stutter.

I have to fresh boot my machine then do nothing but game. Started with the Win 10 Creators Update and have tried everything including a fresh install.

Disabling Chrome Hardware Acceleration doesn't fix it either.

Don't have a browser open whilst gaming. At least not on same PC. Or look up things on your phone.

Simples.

Really?

Win 10 CU broke something. You think it's unreasonable to be able to use a system to game as it did and always worked prior? Don't be a tart.

I expect to be able to boot, use my system as I wish, browse the web and game after closing said apps down. I don't expect to have to clean boot, touch NOTHING, launch and then play the game.

Launching, using Chrome and then closing it shouldn't cause crippling performance issues to games played thereafter.

Lol, we're not still on single core, single program systems.

What the hell is the point in any new computer if you can't multitask. It's an issue with a Windows update; and should be rectified.

We're not talking about multi core CPU's here. We're talking about how chrome's GPU acceleration doesn't play nice with the GPU when the GPU is rendering games.

You can open a browser and close it before gaming. I do that all the time. But opening a browser and leaving it open whilst gaming well I'm not surprised it causes issues.

It must have something to do with the way it opens up calls and system resources on the GPU.

An alternative then if it's a chrome issue is to use a browser like Firefox.

Quite.

I game @4k with my 1080ti and have my onboard graphics running a small monitor which I’ll have BBC news 24 / whatever live streaming or social media open or some music player running, am I doing it wrong? :D

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this: Control Panel vanishes if i don't install the ' 3D Plugins', i don't have/or use 3D?. I follow driver best practices DDU ect. If i track down CP it refuses to load. Are drivers of late being rushed out/flaky. I get the general impression most people are experiencing issues, mostly due to installation errors, every few releases or so?.

Weird because I see it fine. Definitely on your end.

im 4 or 5 drivers behind as well lol I don't install new drivers unless a new game comes out I want and I have to install them.

Excellent outlook to adopt. 'If it works , don't try and fix it'. I will often stick with happy drivers. My brother will install ie: every MB bios update/GFX drivers as it appears in front of him, with no thought given if he needs them or not, its not the best policy, especially when Microsoft can upset the apple cart with their shenanigans. I am currently on 398.36. Am taking delivery of a '21.9 G-sync monitor' today, so we shall see.

hhhmmm, installed the latest drivers and now I have screen tearing in Chrome

[EDIT] Nevermind, I turned off GPU Acceleration after reading above that it can affect games, that has caused the screen tearing. Turned it back on and it's gone.
