**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

My overlay (alt-z) doesn't work anymore, so I can't record. Is there another way of doing it or a complete reinstall needed?

I spent hours trying to fix this over the last few days. Uninstalled everything completely, and installed an earlier verion. The share option (so I can record my games) worked for a few seconds before it updated on its own. And then it broke again.

In the end I uninstalled via DDU, installed an older verion and blocked everything in Eset firewall so it cant update. I dont understand why Nvidia and even other companies force updates on us all the time. If you dont want to update then we should be given the choice!

Even after blocking, GeForce Experience is constantly trying to get 'outside'. Over 1500 attempts in the last couple of days

*edit* I read my firewall wrong. That was over 1500 attempts in 15 minutes....wtf Nvidia!!

Windows 10x64 and 1080Ti.

for some reason the 398.xx series of drivers causes my PC to either randomly reboot, rare but has happened, or do a full screen type refresh in Windows, as though you have stopped Explorer and started it again.

If it did reboot the error reported in the dump file would link to nvlddmkm.sys.

Prior to that I have been using the 391.31 drivers with zero issues, so I have gone back to those. Hopefully all will be well now.

Interesting. I've been getting random reboots in the middle of games and was blaming it on mobo or psu. Eliminated the PSU and put it down to mobo and temps. Eliminated temps and now I've been blaming it on power surges from power cuts. I'm on 398.11, did this happen with 398.82 for you?

Yes it did. It took me a while to pin point it to the 398.xx release and a longer testing of the 391.31 drivers is needed to confirm what I now suspect. This is the error that I was getting after reading the dump files from a reboot...

The screen type refresh within Windows happened more often than a reboot for me, on an other wise stable system prior to the driver update.

As noted the 391.31 drivers were great, not sure why I bothered to update them - note to self not to if all is well...!!!!

Ok I'm talking about instant hard reset with no dumps. Think we're getting different effects.

Mine was a reset where I returned to the PC to find that I was greeted to the login screen, it had rebooted. It also showed that in the event viewer.

After going back to the drivers noted so far it has been very stable without issue prior to the 398.xx drivers. Hopefully it will continue.

For those looking for an install package without the bloatware / spyware

I've done a few installs of stuff like this, mostly pulling it apart myself, for people lately where official release = crashes and/or driver TDRs and/or stutter installing the same driver with a bunch of the extra services, etc. removed = no problems at all. Its a bit annoying and I expect nVidia will start hardwiring some of this stuff to prevent people unpacking the driver like this down the line :(

Remember when drivers were so simple? Download a 45MB Detonator driver with no fluff?

Yet here is Creative with 68MB or so AE-5 drivers with no fluff.

Will these have the Pascal downgrade V1.0 in?

Or will they be in the first Turing driver?
