**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

But all that is happening is you get a smaller download as you can select what items to install with package from Nvidia. I usually untick everything but the driver. Unless they tinker with the drivers too? If so I am intrigued as to what bloatware is in the actual driver itself?

There is no point in downloading a "clean/Redux" package from elsewhere when you can do the changes yourself in 10 seconds.

The thing is that when you install your nvidia driver, even if you only select display driver and nothing else, a lot of crap will be forced onto your machine including telemetry services and other nonsense that nobody asked for. So by cleaning out the driver before installing you get only what you want and nothing else. Ever since i started reducing the installers myself a lot of issues has gone away.

There is no tinkering with the driver, its just a matter of removing almost all the folders and keep a selected few and then edit the setup.cfg by removing 3 lines near the end. thats it. No voodoo included :P

Does anyone know what the purpose of all that rubbish is apart from telemetry? I might start doing this. Link to a decent guide? :p

No driver tinkering. You don't get an option for every part of the setup package from Nvidia, telemetry being the main one. I can't remember the others as I've been downloading the clean version for some time now.
There is also a risk of malware.
I hope you got someone else to post this message for you ;)

Removing things from the packages has a higher chance to cause issues than reduce them.

Ansel needs NV3Dvision packages and Geforce Experience
Shadowplay
Gamestream/Shield controller and other Shield stuff
Leather jacket mining tools
There's also keyloggers hidden in there too but they've hid them well enough so far...:p

@Phixsator more or less describes what to do, but the guides on the clean driver link posted under -How to: Clean Driver by Yourself Guide-:p

Technically true but how have you managed to get this far?:p

Keyloggers? WTF?!! :p

Thanks for the guide. Will check it out :)

Edit: Half asleep here and misread some stuff. Had a look at that guide though, looks very simple to clean myself. Wish I knew this earlier as I did a clean install of windows only yesterday :(

I only update the drivers if i'm having issues to be fair, always have done when it comes to GPU ones. This way always avoid the drivers problems when they same game ready for xx and they usual break something. Im still using 398.36 drivers

i am getting my 1080ti tomorrow (hopefully). i think after listnening to the above i will just install the clean version of 416.16.
looking at the image on the last page which has this driver at the slowest accross the board, i cant believe that is deliberate (as it gimps ALL cards) so maybe this fixes an actual issue or has improved IQ or something. ?

So no word on a 21st century ui update on nvidia drivers? I thought it might happen with the 20 series card release.

Maybe they are waiting for 2020? Lol

Hi, i have noticed a few things since the update not sure if there is a relationship but i will list below
when i boot up half my desktop icons are on monitor 2
i noticed the stretchy artifacting thing for the first time with this card - rog 1080 ti oc - temp was 73 at the time with around 40 on cpu - game was divinity os 2
games will tab minimise every half hour or so

not sure if there is a relation to the issues but weird

So fed up with nvidia drivers, never had this crap when i was on using amd.

G-sync with the new drivers is absolutely trash, in elite dangerous i get constant screen flicker. Had to roll back to 391.35 for it to actually work properly.
