**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

There'll be a new one for the 4 series card soon enough.

Erm, yaeah, but this not about 4 series cards its about drivers supporting current games and improvements on current 3 series and below cards.

Its like saying There'll be a new one for the 5 series card soon enough or 6 series ones.

Check it out, would be very surprised if there was not an official new Nvidia card driver out today 21 09 22 for important changes to MSFS2020 as described below.
It’s official, Microsoft Flight Simulator Sim Update 10 is coming tomorrow ... Today, September 21st. The new update will pack in a variety of new features including support for nVidia DLSS which gets a short trailer to show it off.

Hopefully RTX is coming of age at last if these performance increases are to be believed.

Won't they try and GIMP the 3 series to make the 40 series look far better.

No and this has never been true, Don't get me wrong I do not like leather jacket man 1 bit but videos have shown time and time again performance either stays the same once a new series releases or actually gets ever so slightly better.

After the first few months of driver updates they have pretty much squeezed out all the performance they can, After that it's just compatibility and security updates.

Yea. What does seem to happen is they spend less time optimising drivers for new titles and the latest cards get all the love. That’s what I observed anyway. But yeah, older titles won’t suddenly be gimped.

Exactly, I can still play the latest games with a 1080 Ti at 1440P on my TV, Mostly maxed out, No RT obviously, And everything runs fine.

Would I like to see hardware manufacturers really dig deep and bring out "miracle" drivers to squeeze every last iota out of the "old" cards ? Yes, Will it happen ? Not likely.

You know, I don't get the hype about DLSS. I've been watching a lot of Spider-Man Remastered on Youtube of those on PC using it. They seem to love it. Yet when I see it they're undoing any anti-aliasing cranking up the sharpness. It's god awful yet they think it's awesome. What the hell? The lines all over the city are horribly jagged and not smooth clean lines. You can see tracing of wringing in motion. Plus it looks like somebody discovered Photoshop for the first time then found the sharpness feature and going nuts with it thinking it looks awesome.

Sharpness should be clean. No wringing but clear and smooth. What's the point of anti-aliasing on max when they're undoing it with so much sharpening that any lines are showing blocks of pixels from the over sharpening.

Everytime I see that feature, it adds nothing great to it that I've always to turn it off. It's either too sharp or blurry and what somewhat good sharpening you can get out of it without destroying the picture, there is still some subtle wringing on motion. It never looks right.

Yup I couldn't play spiderman when it first came out due to the over sharpening with no way to turn it off. The last patch allowed you to switch it off/reduce it though, miles better. I always leave sharpness at default or reduce it entirely, rather have a smoother/blurrier image than an over sharpened one with increased aliasing/shimmering

Nvidia's sharpening filter is terrible, it causes artefacts and can cause flickering as well. I turn it off whenever there's the option.

It's strange, before Nvidia started allowing us to change sharpening it was tuned well by default for DLSS, but then AMD's FSR came out and I suppose Nvidia didn't want DLSS to look less sharp than it under any circumstances and went a bit crazy. The irony is that AMD's sharpening seems to produce fewer artefacts and issues in games and is just tuned better by default.

It's funny. This all reminds me of the TV war. Brighter more blue picture to sell. Here you've got GPU manufacturers cranking out stupid amounts of over the top processing. There's a reason why there is sharpness on the monitor with correct sharpness patterns to use. That's all it needs. Not adding to what isn't there.

A correctly set sharpness on a TV or monitor looks clean and crisp without hurting the eyes or destroying the picture. They turn something simple into something stupidly overly complex. Only to destroy it.

The geforce filter one is very poor but the setting in the xp control panel works very well (and also doesn't hit performance like the geforce filter does).

AMDs is much better although I also avoided it due to just not liking oversharpening, that and redux/sweetfx presets are still superior. Having said that, their sharpness with their CAS and FSR setting is beyond awful and introduces loads of artifacts.
