**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

I mainly play POE and SWBF, with the new drivers it blacks screens on poe at various times but all ways end up with the system locking up if i don't quit to desktop.

But using the older drivers which are more stable for me i can't play swbf it forces me to update the drivers if i want to play it.

If it wasn't for those 2 games i wouldn't bounce between the drivers :( dam you Nvidia.

With how bad the drivers have been for me the last couple of times im even thinking about giving team red a try this time round.

Try enabling k-boost if applicable to your GPU (via something like EVGA precision) - I can't play many older games with the recent 356.xx drivers without getting a blackscreen/driver recovery without either enabling it or downclocking to reference clocks :S while any older driver is rock solid.

What are the clocks sitting at?

Yer, looks about right and I couldn't remember the clocks from when I was multi mon. I understand that the extra power is needed as you are running 2 screens but I am sure they could get it down to less but it is the same for AMD, so no good for either really. The extra power draw will mean pennies on your bill though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

could it be because the monitors aren't the same?
One is a Asus 120hz and the other is a Dell 144hz Gsync.

When I disable one monitor clocks go back to normal.

Mine are TV and 144Hz G-Sync@1080p.

I don't know much about why other than idle clocks have been bugged for some, just showing that mine don't and not noticed that they ever have clocked up on my 970.

I've been tinkering around with different drivers as for some reason the more recent ones seemed to have elevated my gpu temps quite considerably. However, as seems to be the case, a clean installation (not the first, I might add), has finally brought them back down by at least 10 degrees.

ok this is strange
When the main monitor (Dell) matches the refresh rate or is lower than the Asus (120hz) then it downclocks. When I put it on 144hz again then it increases.

It's a bug.

I've just noticed the temp has risen again. Currently, it's 38C @ 1025mhz, where as a few minutes ago it was 25C @ 135mhz. Why does it do this? All I've got open is this forum and YouTube.

Youtube if you have hardware acceleration enabled in the browser will be making use of GPU features that will require a higher clockrate - exact nature depending on your power management setting in the nVidia control panel.

With multi-monitor configurations there is a limit to how low the clocks can run depending on the bandwidth required while ensuring stable operation.

Disabling accleration seems to make no difference. I wonder if it's my cpu overclock? Earlier I increased it from 3.4 to 4.3.

Edit : Yup, looks like changing to adaptive power management has sorted it. CPU overclock indeed. :D

.............and the black screen bug with bf3 is back. Now I remember why I uninstalled these.

edit - just noticed my power limit was on default maybe that's why I was getting black screens. doh

GeForce HotFix driver 361.60 LAME!

Upon installing these drivers with " clean install " ticked, my two monitors went black, one came on the other didn't. My main one had seriously bad fonts and then shut off with a power saving mode message. Couldn't get it back so had to hard reboot, which then had me re-installing my ethernet drivers as well as it said my network was corrupted.

What the hell :/

At least it's working ok atm, took the other monitor out, reinstalled the nvidia drivers again
