**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Will update tomorrow then, with general
Update procedure I just use the Nvidia app, do most here just go express installation or clean install?

Custom install, untick the stuff you don't want and that's it. Clean install not necessary unless you have a specific reason to ditch your settings and stuff.

A while ago I just used Nvidia app to try and update driver to yesterday's release and I got stuck in a boot loop.

This is on a Lenovo Loq desktop tower i5-14400 RTX 5060 and 16GB DDR5 bought late Jan.

I tried to do clean install of yesterday's driver, which would have replaced the Nvidia driver the Lenovo Vantage app installed about a month ago.

GoogleAI on my mobile finally helped me boot to Windows again while removing Nvidia app and the new driver. Windows 11 has reverted to Nvidia 610.60 driver.

I can't remember ther last time I had so much trouble updating graphics drivers! No idea currently if it's my Lenovo Loq, corrupt Nvidia app driver download, or something else.

Lenovo and Dell have had various issues over time with not just nvidia drivers but Windows Update as well.

So windows update is informing me that its going to install a newer Nvidia display driver on the next windows cumulative update (im currently on 596.36) and there doesn't seem to be a way of stopping it. Is this normal? I cant recall this happening before. Tbh I was thinking of updating to a newer one but I dont like it being forced upon me by windows.

I turn off:

Settings > Windows Update "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available"

If you do that you can see what Windows would like to install and then choose whether or not to do so:

Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates

It’s pathetic that things like this are needed in order to get normal performance; it goes to show how much potential performance we’re losing because of crappy optimisation.

That's actually really cool. Things like this should really be built into the Nvidia app, but then if bugs get carried over multiple driver versions, which it has done many times, it wouldn't look good for Nvidia.
The funny thing is, based on HUB's (much as I dislike them) video on this app, that is kinda what AMD has already started doing.
They found some limitations to AMD's approach, and some titles where the AMD driver couldn't handle it/the title wasn't part of the supported engine is doing, so SCS still served some purpose, but it seems AMD is already working on something along this lines. Microsoft also was with its precompiled shaders program.

If it becomes more public knowledge, it wouldn't surprise me if Nvidia does too; as they don't like not having a feature that the rivals have, especially as AMD and Microsoft are both starting to work on this directly.

I dunno.. Ngreedia don't give a **** about gamers now tbh..

Does this do the same thing as running "Compile Now" in the global setting "shader cache" in Nvidia app?

@WiGgLr - The nvidia app will only recompile shaders that have already been cached. It won't build all shaders used by a game and will not build any for a game that has not previously been loaded.
