The Oblivion 360 Thread

Haha a guy at work just told me to play the game properly because I told him I wasn't doing the main quest right away...

Tell him to get stuffed and learn to play the game properly. The main quest isn't even scratching the surface of this game. It never did in any of the ES games, Oblivion is no different.

Lol, I guess everyone has there own way to play 'properly'.

I've spent nearly 5 hours playing and all I've done is have a quick wander around outside gawping at the scenery before heading into the city for supplies. Had a pint with some guards and visited / persuaded a lot of the mechants so I can do some good haggling to off load the stuff from the first dungeon. I'm still lvl 1, but with a game like this it's such an arbitratry fact I don't care :)

Maybe it's because I'm playing at 480P but I've had no framerate issues so far, the loads outdoors are so fast I only know it's happened because the message pops up (I even looked to see if I could turn this off). I have seen the odd texture flicker / graphical anomoloy but I only see them when I'm looking for them if you know what I mean.

I actually also quite like the persuading mini game; when I first read of 'mini-games' I did worry a little bit but so far I'm finding them agreeable.

My only real complaint is I'm away all weekend!!

Gonna give this a proper play in a bit

gonna get dressed and eat something fatty to absorbed last nights alcohol :D

not got work till 5 so should get a good 4 hours in, gonna be cheecky and use my dads TV to see how much better it looks, will take pics later

Right mines just arrived so see you all in a few months!!!!

this had better be worth the hype!

I couldn't decide between the 360 and PC version of oblivion and ended up ordering both. I'm still waiting on the PC version turning up but I got my 360 version yesterday.

First impressions were a little disappointing, I think this is down to all the screens that got released and made the game look so good, but I found that once I got out into the wild the game did stutter occasionally, there is sometimes a far bit of popup in the distance and on occasion the game can look a little ropey. This isn't to say the game doesn't look nice, there are certain times where the graphics are breathtaking, but for each of these moments there are other moments of stutter, framerate drops or area's that are just bland. None of these issues are a big problem for a game of this nature, at the end of the day this is an RPG done on a huge scale. Sure the graphics in one small PD Zero level look better and it doesn't pause to load, but when you take into account how big the world is in Oblivion it is mind blowing that they managed to fit it all in and get it looking as good as it does.

All of this doesn't mater to me, I played Morrowind on a PC that could hardly handle that game, but it was the gameplay that made the game for me. Thankfully in the little time I've spent with Oblivion the same core gameplay values that I loved in Morrowind are right at the heart of Oblivion. It's all about the freeform nature of the game, the size of landscape, the sheer number of quests and adventures and the fact you can play this game in an almost endless number of ways.

I know I'm hooked because when I put the game on at 20:00 last night for a quick look because I was really tired and wanted an early night. The next thing I knew it was 01:30 in the morning and I hadn't left the sofa for a drink, bio break, ciggy or anything. I actually sat there wondering where the heck all the time had gone and had to force myself to turn the 360 off to get some sleep.

Overall I think Oblivion on the 360 is superb. It's one of the few recent games that has got me thinking about it while I'm stuck at work :( I just can't wait to get home and play it some more.

Was it you that said you'd never played ES games and bought this on hype? If so how are you getting on with it? I'm in the same boat, but have managed to avoid buying it so far !

If you want an immersive story, with great environments, top audio and music, total freedom and some impressive graphics (they really are, but you have to play to get a scale of the game) then you HAVE to get this game.

It's worth it. My mate doesn't normally play games like this, he started at 12pm and finished at 2am and still hasn't done the first Oblivion gate as he decided to go steal horses and raid monks.

There is so much you can do. Personally, I can't wait to learn the spell to walk on water.

jammy gits!!

one question, can you team up with anyone? or can you get a pet so to speak like in wow?

or is it a solo affair?

cheers

still waiting on my copy :( cries

Have to agree totally with this. I have not done any of the main quest really and am stuck in a bloody painting at the mo, but thats for another thread. I've been playing about 6 hours so far and explored a dungeon, a mine and done a couple of mini quests with my character at level 3.

The weather effects are superb, I got caught in a storm, the most realistic weather I've seen on a game. Apart from the draw distance this game has everything. I'm not even an RPG fan and i love it.

Yup! That was me.

So far, really enjoying it. I can half understand what a few people have said about the graphics, although mine have got slightly better since I changed the resolution to widescreen, they seem more 'to scale'.

Was really really disappointed with the waiting everytime I examined something, but reset, held the A key down, and now running smooth as silk.

Once you get outside, there's definately a sense of "whooooooa", I just looked around thinking where to go, shut my eyes, turned, and went forward.

At the moment, I don't know what to expect. I've already had some bloke attack me (he was no match for my sword skills though ;)), and yet to discover how to kill the zombies after I found a secret door under some ruins.

Seen something glint on a mountain so gonna take a long walk up there or find myself a horse (or nick it) and head off to explore.

Will post more opinions later.

Am bloodletter ranked in the arena, have got a nice dagger from the assassins guild which is lethal, founnd the cursed mines which had some nice magical bows in there :)

I see you already have a sense of the scale of the game then?
