The OCUK Guitar Warriors Competition

i was considering entering till i heard some of the other entries being slated, which are about a million times better than anything i could string together (oh its punderful!) i'll just keep practising and let this one pass by i think :)

For those of you who are intimidated, dont be becasue i dont think there is a single entry that has everything or is to everyone's tastes...

Because its a real mixed bag I think that your entries would fit a lot better than you think, there is some alternative, some covers, some originals, various eras of music and various styles...

If you dont feel that you could compete, then go in a different direction.

the reason for penkis catching my attention was it was very tight, i like tight solid riffs... im a perfectionist as i have said i like tight solid sound.

I don't think I played more than three notes in a row on that track...And they're sloppy (the intro).

I'd consider entering but the only even partly relevant piece I could enter would be the audio from an old War Pigs jam video we took at a past band practise.. would that be appropriate with the drums/bass on it? I could even just enter part of the video itself if peeps want to see my ugly mug :p

From what I understand, he;s referring to the individuals who do nothing but slate other musicians and claim to be better but refuse to prove it.

A prime example of this occured today in the Hard-fi thread.

Ok, I'll check out that thread (I've not bothered with it previously) - thanks :)

I've been following this with interest, but this is the only place I've ever heard the term "guitar warriors", and "warriors" keeps getting repeated - What the hell does that mean?

The original term is Keyboard Warriors (people who act hard behind their PC keyboard) but I changed it to Guitar Warriors because of this thread -

We have still yet to see all the musicians who can easily play this tune bring any proof forward. The only entrants for my hypothetical band have been the musos who keep their mouths shut and just get on with it. I can't wait wait for the four losers who stand on a stage with me to be replaced with cybermusos.

Who exactly are these people you're expecting to post some recordings? You've got almost all the notable guitarists from this board already, with the possible exception of Sidewinder, and the guy in the Hard Fi thread.

No problem :)

I've learnt upto the sweep picking bit, sounds ok, but I need more practice, I've found it to be one of the most enjoyable things to learn though so it's all good :)

Thanks! Thats wicked.

Can play the first 40 bars or so at the moment, but its no where close to being clean or sounding good yet. I think the faster parts may exceed my ability, but its worth a try :D

I can play most of it up to about 2.10 mins.

Havent really had time to do more yet, but the hardest bit (bit i couldnt do) I found was the mini 'shred' halfway through that. Cant do it for the life of me. :(

Most Boring Song Ever

And pretty damn easy to play really. Minus the sweep picking (which always looks much more impressive than it is) its all slow, repatativy and rubbish.

Named and shamed.

Only one of the people in those quotes says they can 'easily' play that tune, the rest say they can play some, but admit it's either difficult or impossible for them to play it all. I fail to see how that makes them, in your opinion 'musicians who can easily play this tune' (something you said a few posts back, before posting those quotes).

Hey MrPoole, were you after show-off stuff?

If that's the case it might be worth me recording some more stuff... I used to be a big fan of Nuno Bettencourt and could probably put together some interesting shred stuff... but then again, by posting this I will HAVE to go through with it now for good or ill otherwise I will join the list of guitar warriors I suppose...

I have never tried to put down shred before, might give it go if I get time...
