if we can talk about PSP custom firmware can we not talk about xbox360 custom firmware?

Didn't think so!

One runs games from ISO imge files downloaded from internet and allows homebrew and one only allows downloaded games to run. Same with Ds flashcarts, all have various said companies trying to shut down various websites selling such devices...

yet OCUK allows you to sell these in MM but not a flashed 360, ironic isn't it, lol

I just hacked my psp.

Now I need to go up into my loft and look for my 20+ PS1 games I have hidden up there.

How big will the PS1 games be? I want to rip as much as possible onto my 4gb stick.

I used THIS GUIDE to hack it. Best guide on the net.

Just had a quick flick through.
Seems a little overcomplicated that one.
The guide I read just takes you straight to 4.01M33-2, and supplies all the files and software with it.

But, so long as it works, that's the main thing

EDIT: That one is just a little out of date is all I think. Rather than have to download older firmwares, and build it up, the guide and files I grabbed just goes straight to 4.01. It doesn't require you go downloading the files yourself either, just one rar archive with everything in it, and a very simple guide of where to copy what.

Sony used to encourage it, about a year or so ago it used to be stickied on the PS forums

If you look on this archive of the ps boards, you will see "The Unoffical PSP Flashing Thread (56k)", that eventually got deleted, and iirc it was stickied too. Again, i think the reason it got removed is because people where sending back borked PSP's with custom firmware on it and expecting Sony to support it because it was on the forums.

Again though, it is as illegal to install custom firmware on the PSP as it is to jailbreak and unlock an iPhone.

Are you implying there is a lack of consistency with some of the rules?? :eek:

Anyway, this thread is pointless, it will get deleted and locked. And the amount of people going 'oh oh oh oh pirate' is quite funny, they tend to be the ones running on a cracked copy of Windows with a cracked copy of office on it too. And tbh, the amount of people with photoshop is quite franly ridiculous considering its price.

people might want to reduce the dvd read speed
or put in a new drive

Changing the drive requires a new motherboard last time I checked, not flashing the firmware.

Google isn't a good link. If you want to sprout bull, at least be able to back it up. Dark Alex is still producing M33 CFW today, so I've no idea where you got any of this from.

A magic memory stick contains no reversed engineered code either, it contains an entire copy of the Sony Firmware, as well as additional files.

Clearly this has rubbed too many people up the wrong way. I've emailed a don asking for their opinion, but really I think even if I get the go-ahead from a don, the threads going to filled with rubbish from all the whiners that already exist in this thread. That said, I'm still going to post the guide on my own blog, and give the link to people that I know are interested.

He has always been called Dark Alex, he has changed the name of the group he releases under from Dark Alex to Team M33.

That was over a year ago, M33 is still being released.

I hope you don't get knocked off that moral highground, quite a splat.

For your next crusade go kick up a stink to the Apple users or e-mail the Dons about that? Seeing as you are all appalled at the hypocrisy in here, it should be the same elsewhere in the forum.

Just to clarify I don't think the guide should be posted here (mentioned it already), but harping on and arguing about rules/morals/legalities (that everyone here is intelligent enough to know unless they are ignorant/naive) doesn't get anywhere. I suppose there has not been a good 360 vs ps3 thread in a while so all the arguements are in here instead
