The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

its incredibly difficult to say, there are so many different flavours to pick from:

Handy chart there, thanks! I didn't realise Ardbeg was so smokey, always seemed pretty mild to me. I love the chocolatey aftertaste it leaves on your palate!

Currently sipping some Laphroaig Quarter Cask that's so smoky it smells like the Spanish Inquisition in here. Eating some chilli-flavoured dark chocolate with it and it's like a little rollercoaster speeding through a forest fire in my mouth.

The quarter cask is the same smoke level as the 10 year on the chart but it is almost into the rich category. According to the waitrose chart.

Of all those, the signature then?

At that price, definitely.

Laphroaig is lovely with chocolate. Never tried it with chili chocolate though, sounds like it would work well - must give it a try.

Got to finally try this beauty last week :)

The supermarket near my house had mistakenly priced it as the normal talisker 10 to make the dram even sweeter! :D

I really enjoyed the complexity of the flavour, finding the sherry casking to add a depth of bitter sweet notes which kept me coming back for more!

Nose (n): Smokey peat, sweet sherry with a hint of port and chocolate

Taste (t): Rich peaty smokey warm notes taking turns to battle with sweetness and hints of floral and vanilla

Finish (f): The famous peppery talisker burn

Balance (b) Its forte is the balance of sweet and smokey

Overall, 92/100.

I got a bottle of that Talisker for my birthday, looking forward to trying it!

Nydryl, we get it. :p You got tickets for next year already? I'm so broke, but hopefully pick a ticket up in January if there are any left!

Oh, and welcome to the whisky club Ray! Personally I have no time for Glenfiddich, but I suppose it's a good way to try a range of whiskies for a relatively cheap price. And remember, if the whisky is from Scotland then you spell it whisky not whiskEy.

Tbh I have a feeling I will just stock up on miniatures just to get the flavour until I find the one or two that I enjoy more.

I am not a big drinker, so I won't even relax with a beer but I do drink spirit and like the civilised aspect of sitting back with a nice whisk(e)y. It's just if I won't enjoy it, the bottle might sit there for a while.

For example, the bottle of Absolute in my fridge has 1/3 left and I got that in 2005/06.

The bottle of limoncello in the freezer is a year old and has 9/10 left.

I will need help drinking that Balvenie if its not to my taste! :p
