The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

I got a bottle of that Talisker for my birthday, looking forward to trying it!

Nydryl, we get it. :p You got tickets for next year already? I'm so broke, but hopefully pick a ticket up in January if there are any left!

Oh, and welcome to the whisky club Ray! Personally I have no time for Glenfiddich, but I suppose it's a good way to try a range of whiskies for a relatively cheap price. And remember, if the whisky is from Scotland then you spell it whisky not whiskEy.

I'm just bitter that my palate can't operate on such fine scales :p

I've not bought any yet but I'll probably pick a few up before Christmas, maybe dish a couple out as presents. I don't think it sold out until after Easter this year so should be plenty time.

Right, I'm off to tesco in 5 minutes. On my list is a decent glass and a nice bottle.

It's a toss up currently between doublewood, signature and macallan 10.

Pick one of the 3 for me guys! :)

Depends on price, if Signature is around £35, and Doublewood/Macallan is £10 less then get the cheaper one. If Signature is around £28 then get that. The Signature is seen as the best of the 3.

Glenmorangie seems to score highly in a lot of the competitions (but there are so many of them nowadays they are pretty meaningless (though I suppose the San Francisco one is pretty well thought of)), but I personally think it's horrible. Especially their normal one. It's just bland, uninspired and boring. Though, I've only had 2 or 3 expressions. I'd personally rather spend £25 on 70cl of a decent bottle rather than 40cl of them...

I haven't actually tried it yet, though I have promised him I'll buy a bottle if it's £20. I tend to avoid blends, there are some good ones out there but I'm more of a purist. You'd never see a blend next to the single malts up here. :D

Glad you're enjoying your journey into whisky! It's a really interesting drink, with lots of history and loads of variety. It's pretty easy to build up a basic knowledge but so much harder to get anything more than that. But, you're doing the best thing - just getting stuck in and seeing what you like.
