The Offical Lian Li PC-A05 Owners Discussion/Modding Thread!

Here's mine after a bit of hacking.

Specs are Q9650 currently at 4.1 but desperately trying to get it higher
GTX280
4gb OCZ ram

Water loop is as follows

Thermochill PA120.2 cooled by 2 Sharkoon 1000s > Res sat on PSU > pump > 120mm rad with fans psuh pull (akaska silent and a Noctua 1300rpm) > EK supreme > EK GTX280 block > Thermochill PA120.2

The NB is cooled by a 92mm akaska silent fan (No fan in the case is over 20db, it is very quiet but nice and cool.) The pump is silent on a large piece of foam that came as packaging materials.

The mods were the rad grill on the top, the hole on the side to allow better flow over the motherboard.

The fornt hole is the exhaust to help remove all the heat from the case and also help the heat from the PSU escape. I don't think the case did a good job of this originally.

Very nice. One question - is this aluminium block under the pump necessary to keep pump steady?

It probably isn't necessary, however I bought it before I got any decent foan to mount it on, by itself it's not that good but I just couldn't be bothered to take it off again. It does however increase the base area of the pump which means it is a bit more stable on the foam.

I wanted to lower my temps a little bit but also I was a little bit bored and just fancied tinkering with my case. At the same time I lapped my CPU (I had a Q9550 in there before the Q9650) and swapped some fans around and it knocked 10 degrees off my load temps. Not sure how much of that was due to the extra rad ( probably only 2-3 degrees) but it's better than nothing!

Hi, cool, so what stuff are you gonna push in this case?
You didn't mention anything that you were interested in this case:)

yeah i was about to get a 7fb but then i seen this

ive ordered the case and i should be getting a pa120.2 next week

ill then possibly be putting a thinner rad along the bottom or a single rad on either the exhaust or intake.

and if my bonus is good this year it will be a matx i7 set-up going inside

Well i know its been a while but i thought id post that my camera charger i have been waiting on for about 3 weeks has arrived so ill take some pics of my A05 as soon as i have finished cleaning up the corners on my window that i cut yesterday, looks pretty nice, all i need is some cathodes to light it up; cant decide on blue or white, that and powder coated innerds:D

If you got the black one id be inclined to give white a go. Would look sweet ;)

Purchased my PC-A05b about a week back, i love it!

Felt the need for a side fan but didn't want to shell out the price for the BS-03, so i used some cable ties instead lol, GHETTO :D!

Sorry for the picture quality, was taken with phone.

make a cheap card baffle (possibly not the right word) but basically add half a box to make it work exactly the same as the BS-03

speaking of updates i've ordered my processor, had to go a bit more budget than i'd originally planned, but hey, i can always upgrade more later, an E5200 if anyone is interested, just the GPU and the OS to go, should be finished in 26 days and counting :)

I leave my side panel off so no need to really. :)

fair enough, is there really any need of the fan then? (does it lower temperature enough to justify the added noise?

Yes, the GFX card idles around 52-55 then shoots up around 63-65 on load, with the added fan it knocks off about 5, the fan is a silent eagle 1000 so there ain't too much noise.
