The Offical Lian Li PC-A05 Owners Discussion/Modding Thread!

Yes, the GFX card idles around 52-55 then shoots up around 63-65 on load, with the added fan it knocks off about 5, the fan is a silent eagle 1000 so there ain't too much noise.

Andy`

fair enough, i got to power up my system for the first time today (ok, so it doesn't have a GPU or OS, that's not the point :p) and heard the noise of the xilence redwing on my CPU cooler (forgot to connect the case fans, so there was only the redwing and my PSU fan spinning) which was practically silent (and i mean silent), going to have to replace the case fans though, massively loud :(

anyway, pics:

think i've done pretty good with the cables, still some tweaking to do, but i'll do that once the GPU is installed, either way there are no cables obstructing air to any vital part of the case, so i'm pleased so far

If you're not using the HDD rack get rid of it, it's really easy to do and gives you loads more room in there (handy for me with my water cooling) and will help a bit with airflow.

i don't have the tools, it does not impede airflow of any components and it helps to hide the cables so at the moment i'm keeping it

After purchasing a SSD last week and turned on without a traditional HD plugged in I was amazed at how quiet my PC was! it wasn't loud before but the HD hum was the loudest noise, something had to be done.

I planned to bungee mount my spinning HD and then isolate the HD cage from the rest of the system.

First I drilled out the rivets to the hard drive bay and removed it from the case, I then removed all the rivets holding in the hard drive rails.

This allowed enough space for a bungee mod without the drives fouling on the case,

I mounted bolts so they would protrude toward the front for remounting the cage, during remounting I also used the now redundant grommets, lian li supplied for the original HD mounts, to rubber isolate the HD cage.

You cant really see but there are grommets between the cage and the case, but you can see that there is a gap and the cage does not touch the case,

I didnt over tighten the nuts holding the cage onto the case, so as to not crush the rubber, and used thread lock to ensure they dont come undone.

The result, you cannot hear the HD anymore, before you could feel the vibration on the outside of the case, now there is minimal vibration felt on the cage and absolutely none where the cage mounts to the case.

Overall an excellent modification and combined with a top vent and all fans @7v makes for a very cool and quiet pc.

yeah i was about to get a 7fb but then i seen this

ive ordered the case and i should be getting a pa120.2 next week

ill then possibly be putting a thinner rad along the bottom or a single rad on either the exhaust or intake.

and if my bonus is good this year it will be a matx i7 set-up going inside

So did you buy it? Any pics?:)

Well after much delay i have got some pictures tken and uploaded, about a month late but better late than never eh!

really hard to get good cable managemant on the sata leads.

Heres my window, hand cut and finished all by me, really pleased with the outcome. lines are true and the corners looks spot on to me.

Well there she is, hope you fellas like it.

Jig saw to make the cuts then file off about 2mm all the way around with a large file, that pretty much gets the lines streight then just high grit wet and dry to finish it off. Took about 6 hours spread over 2 days. Have to be carefull, the ally has a tendancy to try and bend when i was cutting it, just need a gill in the top now.

/sigh i'm glad everyone elses is looking good, mines still got problems, thought it was the mobo which i replaced and i've still got the same problems, peeing me off really :(

What problems?

Also, these cases are like gold dust! They're getting quite hard to find now, and you seem to pay a considerable premium in a lot of places for a black one. I've been looking for a second hand black one for a while but people seem to be hanging on to them, so they must be as good as you say!

What problems?

i think after confirming the my GPU works (on a mates computer) and relacing the mobo i've narrowed it down to a knackered PSU (which is more than annoying as it's brand new).

basically everything spins up bar the GPU which just shows a lit up LED in my comp (but not in my mates), this is inside and outside the case (no shorts) with different cables (no dodgey cables), after resetting the cmos, using the barest essentials (PSU, mobo, CPU, 1 stick of RAM (tried in every slot) and GPU)

still nothing, the only common denominator now that would cause the problem (or so i imagine) is the PSU, which i'm trying to see if my mate will let me test it on his rig before potentially wasting more money on an RMA which might find nothing wrong with it. to say i'm fed up is an understatement!!!

this'll be the 4th computer i've built and the only one i've ever had a problem with and i'm beginning to understand how other people feel when it just wont bloody work!!! :o
