*** The official 2025 MacBook Air 13" and 15" thread (it has the M4 chip and everything!) ***

I found a 10gbps enclosure with a magnet built in and also a couple of USB ports, HDMI out AND an SD card slot no wider than the width of an iPhone.

For £20!

Just stick one of those MagSafe magnet stickers on the back of the screen and attach it as needed.

edit - found a pic.

The 13” M4 MBA base model is perfect for my needs, but I’m struggling to pull the trigger for one reason only.

60Hz refresh rate :(

Is it going to be your main machine? Personally I don't mind it, one of my monitors at home is only 60hz, I have it side by side with a 120hz one and I can't notice a difference!

Yeah it will be. I’ll be selling my gaming PC, but I need to decide whether to keep the Alienware AW3225QF monitor.

I have a 14” MBP from work and the difference is night and day. The 60Hz refresh rate makes it feel like a slow machine.

Fair enough, the MBA is not going to be my main machine. I just need to replace that 2018 MBP that I have, the only reason it's stayed for this long is because I've installed windows on it and I need it for installing OS on my retro consoles. I went 2010 - 2018 from my original MBP and then 2018 to current, it's a good time to upgrade.

I think I'm going to get one of these. I had an M1 MBA a few years ago and loved it dearly - I was seduced back to a windows laptop by an oled touchscreen, but 2 years on I'm fed up of noisy fans and crap battery life. How well does macOS play with non apple phones these days?

What do you mean by play? iPhones share most of the same apps and services as macOS so it’s like an extension of your phone. They also benefit from continuity https://www.apple.com/uk/macos/continuity/

A non iPhone will have non of that.

Yeah, basically all of that! MS Phone link allows you to do some of this with either iPhone or android phone but when I had my MBA M1 you needed third party software to do the same with a non-iPhone (and it wasn't anything like as comprehensive or seamless). I'm just wondering if the situation has improved, though obviously I wouldn't expect the same experience.

Well you now have iPhone mirroring on os 18. It’s an incredible feature from the vids. Keen to try it soon.

Ordered a 15” m4 with 512gb storage and 16gb ram. It will likely completely replace my windows PC. Now just wondering if should have gone 24gb.

if you want to run a single windows virtual machine youll benefit from 24GB otherwise youll be fine.

This really bugs me too, but I also have a high refresh gaming laptop, OLED monitor and Macbook Pro. Still wouldn't change the macbook air from my main system, despite the 60hz screen. The rest of the laptop is just so nice, portable such a great general use machine. You will easily ignore the 60hz refresh after a bit.

Is there really a meaningful uplift from the M2 to the M4? I love my 13" M2 but I do really quite fancy a 15" sky blue, a bit of a performance uplift wouldn't hurt either.

Does anyone know if the Lenovo Hybrid USB-C dock would work with this M4 Air and let me use the display port and hdmi ports?

I know a few years back there was a whole thing with having to use displaylink compatible hubs etc but that was more an M1/M2 limitation than the actual dock itself?

Cheers

I have two displaylink docks, no issues with my M1 MBA and M2 Mac Mini.
