I’ve seen a bit of hate about the chin, but I can see why Apple has done it - when you see it front the front, it’s still undeniably an iMac.

Apple love their products to stand out in the market, hence why we get a new colour with each iPhone revision.

I personally don’t mind it. I just wish the bezels were black personally

I’d love the yellow one for the front room - looks lovely :)

Awesome thing. Wish I had an excuse to get one. Performance looks good, screen specs’ are pretty great as well.

people complaining at only 8gb of RAM need to understand about memory efficiency, go watch some reviews about performance, 8gb is plenty for most and for the few that do crazy video editing etc then 16 is on option.

Genuine question as you seem to know what you're talking about. I moved from a 2011 MacBook Pro with 4gb ram to a Windows machine with 16gb ram last year, and that machine works well. However, my work laptop with 8gb ram and otherwise similar specs struggles horribly with everything.

I would never buy another Windows machine with less than 16gb (frankly I may never buy a Windows machine again), yet 8 seems plenty on a Mac. Why? Is it just a more efficient OS?

exactly. The new M1 chip even more so.

Sometimes numbers don’t tell the whole story, but they can sure as a shirt make the marketing departments job easier.

Basic question which im still struggling to completely understand.
The new Imac plus the other M1 products and ports.
Are the OI ports USB C (if so which version ) and if so why are they called Thunderbolt ports?
thanks

Very simply Thunderbolt 3 is largely the same as USB-C (same connector) but it is much faster.

They are USB 4 which some include thunderbolt 3. USB 4.0 is of course backwards compatible and normal USB devices work in the thunderbolt ports.

Thunderbolt is an intel standard which is effectively PCI express 3.0 (x4?) over the USB cable. Intel ‘donated’ thunderbolt 3 to the USB 4.0 standard. It’s very fast but is obviously supported by a much smaller number of devices. It’s particularly useful for eGPU, docking stations and very fast SSD storage. It can also be daisy chained which is very useful.

It's the unified memory architecture on the M1 which makes the way RAM is used way more efficient and gives you more for less, compared to previous implementations.

Thinking of ordering one of these tomorrow, not sure whether to go with 16gb or leave it as it with 8.

I’m going 16GB as 8GB is pretty low by today’s standard and can be easily exceeded. It will run fine on 8GB but will use more swap, which I’m not ok with and would rather have more ram.

Got my order in, seems speccing 16GB RAM bumps the delivery date by a week or so, hopefully it comes sooner. No hesitations about the silver, my office is white and shades of grey.

How did you get it for that price? On the edu store for me, it's a lot more expensive than that. I've decided against changing the MBP over the past week, so just curious rather than requiring help.
