****The Official 5G Home Broadband Thread**** (Three/EE/Vodafone/etc)

Been having major problems with my three 5g hub having to reset it 2 to 3 times a day due to drop outs, after 2 weeks with signal tests by three and loads of calls still the same problem, after a quick google and other people having the same problem the conclusion was to turn off the auto updates, after 4 days I have had no drop outs and a solid and steady signal, coincidence maybe just happy to not keep resetting the bloody thing
That's a useful bit of information. The only problem i have with my Cpe Pro 2 is after about 3 days it bogs down and barely loads web-pages It did it today and speed-tested at 0.85Mbps Down and 0 Mbps up. 1401 Ping A quick soft restart and its back to super speed. Full 5 bar signal 5g and 4g all lights alight decent Signal in the router settings.... I am scratching my head.....at the moment.

Hi everyone.

Thought I'd update you all on my situation. There is currently a problem with EE in my post code which is acknowledged by EE (it has been this way for about 6 weeks at least). I have concluded that my constant restarting the router is due to this and not the router itself.

I tested this by purchasing a Three unlimited 5g sim card to put in to the router. After going away for one week I was able to connect to my smart home devices every day with no issues (controlling lights/security cameras etc). When i came home my phone connected instantly and Internet is accessible.

Now all i need to do is find a good area in the house to get 5g signal as only 4g is detected in my current location. When i first connected the three sim card the speeds were awesome (400/50) so I'm hoping to move the router around to actually find 5g signal and then hopefully no more anguish!

I still however have the EE sim and I'm still tied in with them for another 12 months. Can anyone advise how I go about cancelling this contract due to technical faults or pushing EE to credit me for poor service? They advertise being the best but they are FAR FROM IT. They keep sending automated texts saying the problem in my area is taking longer than normal to fix which i think they're actually doing nothing about!

0007 the phone is a cheap Samsung Galaxy A42-5g..... obviously being a mobile i was able to go and find the good signal / speed.
When i refer to as cheap the more expensive phones have a better chipset / modem and could potentially get better speeds..
The router is at my home on the window sill its a Huawei Cpe pro 2 both on the Three network............ I am 470 metres from a tower..

I found the best signal is about 6" away from where my router sits at the moment signal Outside. RSRQ = -6.0 dB RSRP = -77 Db RSSI = --53 dB SINR = 22dB = 840 MBPS (excellent signal)
Outside pointing to the tower. This gave 840.28 Mbps down and 77.18 Mbps up
The signal inside varies quite a lot .. Inside RSRQ = -8.0 dB RSRP = -98 Db RSSI = --71dB SINR = 17dB = 666 Mbps (not so good signal)
I have come to the conclusion that 5g is an Outdoor Technology And if i knew what i know now. I would have bought an external router. and mounted it outside facing the tower.
When the weather gets warmer i can just open the window an put the router where it gets the best signal.................

you dont say what router you have . Why don't you go into the routers settings page and find out what signal you are getting.n my router log-in / advanced / system ( signal information ).. I found the place where i get best signal by using my 5g mobile phone
strongest signal in my loft and on the window sill outside. This has worked out the best 2 places for my 5g Modem.
I have had my router for about 4 weeks now. I am so stupid i did not notice that the Home page of the router was where you find out how strong your signal is
mine always had such a good signal i thought it was a picture. It changed one day in front of my eyes then i realised it was a live page.

after a couple of weeks which i thought solved the problem, mine is now doing the same every 3 to 4 days, a 30 sec soft reset also sorts everything out

Some one on another forum runs their CPE PRO 2 in Bridge mode and his does not crash every 3-or 4 days..
No one seems to know anything about 5g there is no more useful info than 1 year ago. Its 99% there for me once this silly little quirk is sorted it will be 100%.
You are also on 3 .Loads of people have the CPE PRO 2 Spouting a load of rubbish information . Like the CPE PRO 2 is locked to "Three".. NO its not its unlocked. You cant change the APN . Yes you can change the APN.
The other thing i was wondering about all the CPE PRO (Three) for sale on Ebay, Three own these routers how can people be selling them.

The next auto firmware update will probably fix this problem and give us 5 extra problems. Meanwhile it only takes 30 seconds for a soft reboot.

Good Afternoon all! It seems I have 30 pages of catching up to do but I jumped on the 5G bandwagon yesterday.

I get 40mbit through VDSL, and initial testing with the 5g hub is ~10mbit inside... ~450-700mbit when sitting outside the window on the roof! Obviously this warrants further exploration.

Does anyone know if the three 5g hub supports use of the external antenna connectors? I can't see it anywhere in settings.

If it is the CPE Pro 2 and/or the ZTE (I can't recall which one Three uses) then no sorry neither have external connectors. But just do a quick visual check on the rear of the unit to confirm.

My mistake, it's the ZTE MC801A, which does have two external connectors on it. I just can't find anything in the settings... or any decent documentation!

Yep you are correct - quick search online would suggest 2 slots for external antenna with TS-9 connectors. :) You are right there is no decent documentation that I can find, only thing I can see is it just says "attach antenna". I wonder if it is automatic? You would be able to tell I guess straight away if the speed / signal stats improved with the antenna attached vs no antenna attached.

The new CPE PRO 2 from Three does not support Antennae s . The secret is to put the Device where you get the best most reliable signal and then work out how to wire all your other devices preferably wired to it.
I got more gain than an antennae would give my moving my Router 6 inches from inside my window sill to opening the window and putting on the outside sill. I have two places where my router gets maximum signal .The loft and outside on my windowsill.... Also there is a man on you-tube that got fed up with these overpriced antennas that don't work , he built his own 9 dB gain antenna (for about £3).

if you are stubborn and "want" an antenna there are company's that install antenna ports on the CPE PRO 2 .My router belongs to Three . If it was my own i would simply do this for a few quid
inside the CPE PRO 2 The antenna connections are just normal push on connectors so would be really easy to do yourself.

I'd suggest doing more experimentation with the location of your hub, do you know where your mast is?

You shouldn't see that huge of a drop from outside to inside, keep the hub at least a foot away from window frames as they can mess with the signal, and once you know your mast location you'll want to play with the location. I get the fastest speeds right next to an exterior wall, not next to the big bifold doors - presumably they affect the signal.

Even a 30cm difference in location can make a big difference.

Thanks - I had assumed outside would be better but I'll try again inside.

There's only one mast pointed our way according to cellmapper which makes things easier. I've tried a few spots inside but couldn't find a good spot. What's the relevance of knowing where the mast is - should I be trying that side of the house, near (but not in) those windows? I also found lining the router up so the longest side faces the mast provides a better signal.

I think I'll try putting the sim inside a phone to make it easier to move around.
