****The Official 7900 overclocking thread****

Ok so its not crap 2.0ns infin cool, well I advise if not already, you sink them even with the thermal tape that comes with sinks, it better than none, but a low strengh mix of AC5 with AC epoxy would help more OC if you volt mod it, easy to remove incase of RMA.

The new Bliss agp Im due has same ram but 512Mb and is cooled by the NV Silencer, so I will soon voltmod core/ram :)

Putting a heatsink on something that doesn't get hot is totally pointless, which is why most 7900GT owners just leave the memory bare.

How is it pointless, cooling wont harm it and may raise overclock even without volt mod, fact is you have hit a brickwall cause you cant get by coolbits 25% OC, so your going to need to voltmod + cool card better and use some other tool like rivatuner, OR simply stop and be happy with whats your at now.

Tim if you want to learn REAL overclocking/modding read thread over at XS or VrZone aswell as any obv here, but the guys there are kinda more hardcore than anywhere else.

Ive did every card I own bar this current 6800U its only softmodded but Im on air and 470 max/1250max is good but I norm run 1200max everyday, remember this tech came out back in April 2004 so not too new now. :)

Your average Joe who buys a GPU dont overclock or mod it BTW.

But heatsinks are designed to get rid of heat, if theres no heat it just sits there doing nothing

I'm registered at XS, its where I found out about the mod I've just done.

Tim, its common sense, if you did a voltmod to raise ram speed more it would get hotter, and sinking would combat this, most would infact sink it before even going for high OC like you are trying to get.

I agree its common sence and believe me, if the memory got hot I would apply heatsinks so untill it shows any sign of getting even barely warm I'll leave it as it is.

Infact isn't GDDR3 designed to output all its heat into the PCB?

Never heard that, possibly a myth as heat rises so someone came up with idea as card is upsidedown heat will go back into PCB, but core cools in same position, some cards like the Chaintech OC Ti4600 has ram soldered into holes in PCB with ram sinks on rear although smaller than front ramsinks.

1 last Q, you may feel ram not too hot and it may not be, but it could possible do more if it is cooled as every 1degree helps raise MHZ, but are you going to totally hardware mod core/ram and sink it and upgrade cooling eventually ? :D

Tim where did I state it had GDDR3 (proper term btw)
I was giving feedback to part about ram does put heat out both back and front and on the OC card I mentioned it was enough to need cooling back and front of the DDR1 ram

NVM, I give up asking simply Q's, I will leave you to try overcome your ceiling you have met, best of luck.

Ceiling? I could overcome it no problems by installing Rivatuner but I simply don't want to. Its hardly a ceiling to have higher than GTX clocks on a card that costs half as much.

Sigh

Tim that card aint a GTX and never will be esp as 256MB ram, Im done in this thread sorry you are easy to bug (see Im not only one to hit nerve with you in thread). :(

Whats with the arguements lol.

Anyway took your advice Tim and got me some some conductive metal stuff from Halfords (£8.99 for 3g , but i reckon a 700mhz core would make up for that). Im going to put it on in half an hour, then leave it for a few hours while i work.

So see you later :D

Just bought some silver conductive paint from a popular auction site, £6.75 for 3g.

I now need to look at upgrading my cooling - I guess a VF900 is the obvious choice. However I really don't like the black brick controller, I'm hoping that part is an optional install.

I dont even use the fan controller that came with it, just plugged straight into a normal fan connector, so its always at highest performance. Still use the controller though for my noisy side case fan.

TBH amdnv comes into threads and insults people all the time.Posts have been deleted by him for this very reason.

I mean what is this all about?

Regardless of what people have said I'm mighty impressed with Tim's and Johanson's overclocking of the 7900 GT

Good results guys and contrary to what some people think about your knowledge and skills as overclcokers some fine scores and great clocks.

I guess some people just register on these forums to wind people up.

Hmm, since when have I got in trouble here or thread deleted, your 1 troll and on the back of another user already today, and by his comments you seem to be all the time, you and 1 more guy here are at it all the time.

He has OC his card big deal, I only asked few Q's as he dont seem to know that much about OC,ing, even tried to hwlp with coolbits and bart.
I then left thread as he seemed not interested in doing anything more for meantime being, its up to him to complain if he got a issue not for you to talk for him ?

Your not happy unless your doing the talking for someone else or trolling, you forget I been here before and was reading for weeks before regging (I lived in USA for while)

P.S Any mod get in touch with me and please tell em whats threads I have got removed !!!!.

All my input is at least truthfull, I ideally only wanted to help in HDD section but got drawn into GPU flame one.
