****The Official 7900 overclocking thread****

just out of interest, whats the stock voltage for a GTX? if its 1.55 then the GTs look to be a pretty good investment along with a VF900 if they can reach GTX speeds  even if the memory isnt quite as good this seems a bit of a bargain.

That was the new zalmans, they are slimmer on the top, the problem is the 4 thumbscrews underneath, the foul the fan of the one above, in some way taking off the cooler the 7800GT broke (might actually have been when i put a spacer in to allow the fan on the card to spin though :P ) (thumbscrews sit same height off card as the bracket on the 700)

Ive gone back to the regular cooler on the 7900GTX, im wondering if i can mod the vf900 into some kickass chipset cooler.

Is there any way you could use cable ties to attach the zalman to get around the thumb screws problem? Seen plenty of pics of ppl attaching CPU heatsinks to gfx cards this way. Just an idea.

I think its 1.5v

Now got mine at well over GTX speeds, 485/1650:) All it lacks is the extra 256MB but thats not all that important if using 1280x1024.

Yes, I just had to go check that too, hmm, some on VrZone getting 500-600 cores on 7800GT's obv 600 is not on air, and 14XX on ram now thats weird on infin 2.0ns modules, But, I'd expect this 90nm 7900GT's to OC far better than figures above for 7800GT's

GTX speeds is 650/1600

Sorry I meant 685/1650, infact its running at the same core speed as yours. My coolbits wont go passed 1650 mem but I'm sure theres a way round that.

Thought you did :)

Nice clock mate :)

And its all artifact free?

Coolbits is only upto 25% OC, now I bet you know its no more than a new reg entry, well to get a additional 25% (total 50%) you need add a reg entry called BART.
Not sure how far RivaTuners lets you go.

The Key that you need to modify is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak. You can navigate to that folder by clikcing the + signs next to each Key to expand the tree. Once you get there, right-click inside the right pane, and choose New>DWORD value. Name the value "Coolbits" (witout the quotes). Right click on Coolbits, and choose Modify. Change the Value data to "3", and click OK. Reboot, and Coolbits is activated!

and if your MAD enough and got Vapour cooling :D

Open up the Registry Editor, and hit F3. Type "Bart" (without the quotes) into the search box, and press Find Next.
You should now be looking at the infamous "Simpson" keys. Right below "Bart", you should see a key named "Krusty". If not, you need to do a search for it, also. Just right click on "Bart", choose Modify, and change the number to read the same as the "Krusty" DWORD value. That's it. Your extra 25% overclock values should now show up in your driver settings.

Thanks but I have a krusty but no Bart:confused:

Im sure like "Coolbits" it has to be made 1st, info is little off from that site.

Make new dword call it "bart" in same section as others like "krusty" and "marge" then make it same value as "krusty" :)

Nah didn't work, I'll just run it at these clocks for a bit. I don't really want to install anything like Rivatuner.

Tim, I though you knew a bit about Overclocking, there is nothing dodgy about RivaTuner, its not like installing Kazaa on your PC :p

It is actually better for more control than Coolbits, you can kill both opengl and direct 3d sync locks where as in Coolbits since 80's drivers only opengl works, and I aint in 5 years seen tearing at my end.

Added to fact Coolbits will fail driver test at a limit and so will Rivatuner, but it can be overriden.

Now I aint ever reached the 25% Coolbits gives you, but, your going to be stuck there if you dont use another app or google "bart" to get it working.

I just prefer to use coolbits, if I install Rivatuner I often find myself tweaking other things and have to reinstall the drivers to get it back to how it was, it also has 2D and 3D speeds doesn't it? I just like using one setting for everything.

I tried ATI tool which was good but i'm sure it was conflicting with coolbits, maybe I need to disable coolbits to use , and I use vsync:)

Tbh i'm happy at 700/1650.

Hmm Tim, Coolbits also had 2 sliders, 1 for 2d and other for 3d, you are adjusting the 3d obv and by default the 2d memory speed will follow it, unless like me you offset it in gpu bios so you can run differnt memory clocks for 2d and 3d, although many say this can give you issues, Ive had none on my 6800U agp and will be doing on my new card as I dont want Ram to be overclocked 24/7, ideally only when in 3d mode, same as cores are by default faster in 3d then 2d and most have lower volts in 2d but some bios set same for both.

Noticed a couple of flashes in 3DM06 at 715 core, might be close to the limit. Looks like i'm sticking to 700/1650. Not a bad core overclock, 230MHz:)

See on 7900GT is it same slower 2.0ns infin ram modules and whats default ram speed on your card, and also does it come with no ram sinks out the box like 7800GT's ?

Cause if it has I dont get how you and others on 7800GT's are sinking ram and getting mad high overclocks, but some have hardmoded both core and ram over on VrZone.

Edit even the 7800GT's I see here for sale looks like ram is under heatsink, WTf they saying they dont have over on VrZone for ?, i did read all 15+ pages lol.

OHHHH its the 7900Gt that has no ramsinks, hmm ok as they say gddr3 is cooler and less volts but man thats mad lol.

Memory default is 1370, 1.4ns Samsung - they dont even get warm at 1650. No heatsinks. As you've seen in this thread they go a lot higher than that, 1850 for example.
