****The Official 7900 overclocking thread****

No i'm using watercooling, maze 4 waterblock. The 1.4v mod is NOT advised for stock cooling, you'd need a Zalman VF900 atleast.

See top of page 4 for my card.

Well 1600 is pushing it already with 1.4Ns but I will test further of course. The one thing that stopped me before was my clocks were stable in 3DMxx but would lock the system during CoD2, and being so I'm on CoD2 every night its more important that I get a solid clock rather than one thats right on the edge which could crash my system during a match.

I'll see if the core goes any higher though as coolbits detect optimal frequencies is sometimes 20-30mhz out. I've seen a couple of 660 core's with 1.4v

EDIT: whats the GTX std clocks, just so I know where I am?

I was getting 1742 auto detect with my old 7900 GT

GTX standard clocks are 650/1600 but it uses 1.1ns memory

Yeah mines only auto'ing at 806 (1612) so maybe one of the chips are weaker, not sure, only time will tell:)

Damn, thats a nice score, very impressive mate :)

Thankyou:)

CoD2 stable @ 640/1604 now, will be trying for 650 core later, pretty sure it'll be fine there (or 660) but yeah i'll whack the memory up a bit but i'm not expecting much more.

Johanson- get upto Halfords and look at the heated windscreen repair kits, they include conductive silver. Masking tape should make this mod much easier but if you've got a steady hand (unlike me:o)it should be no probs, dont get too cocky though - my cameras made that area look a lot bigger than what it is. GL:)

Cheers Tim. Theres a halfords right next to my college aswell :D so the mod will be done by saturday!
A 650 core should go well with my 1850 memory :D I just cant get over how good the value for money is.

Just to confirm, played a quick CTF game on CoD2 which lasted about half an hour @ 660 core, not a sparklie in sight:)

I think i'll end up doing the 1.5v mod in the morning, 1.55v one looks slightly trickier.

660 is the limit on my card with 1.4v, coolbits fails even at 662, shame really as some cards are doing 680 at 1.4v. Not to worry though maybe i'll get 700 with 1.5v:p

I finally got round to sticking on King Kong that came with my asus card today, I remember trying out the demo when it came out back before xmas on my X1800XL - what a difference! 1600x1200 4x FSAA runs like absolute butter.

Im mightily impressed by the card, so much so ive forgotten all about the four hundred and odd quid ive spent on it, and am considering getting another and a 30" dell to play around with.

Question though, would two 7900 gtx's with their fat coolers fit in a abit 32x board? The 2 7800GT's i had wouldnt with zalmans on (ended up breaking one), and it seems snug, surely abit would have built the board with sli in mind for the best cards out there?

Maybe the new Zalmans will fit, they're slimmer aren't they?

That was the new zalmans, they are slimmer on the top, the problem is the 4 thumbscrews underneath, the foul the fan of the one above, in some way taking off the cooler the 7800GT broke (might actually have been when i put a spacer in to allow the fan on the card to spin though :P ) (thumbscrews sit same height off card as the bracket on the 700)

Ive gone back to the regular cooler on the 7900GTX, im wondering if i can mod the vf900 into some kickass chipset cooler.
