****The Official 7900 overclocking thread****

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread ;)

In case you can't log in:

"I will do the pencil vgpu mod as soon as my zalman VF-900cu arrives, probably tomorrow or the next day"

reading through this thread, which is the best 7900gt to buy? Ideally I want one for £200 - £220, is the vanilla OcUK one a good clocker?

I got my OcUk one up to 680/1666 gaming stable (450/1320 stock). That's 11k in 3dmark05. There may be better, but that's certainly still what i'd call a 'good clocker'

Is that with 1.5V?

I've dropped mine back down to 1.4V to keep the temps low, might jack it back up when a new game needs it.

1.55v :). I was running 650/1733 at that level but I found that the memory started to slip a bit at the very top end and wasn't as stable. So I backed it down but found that it now let me push the core further. I ended up at 680/1666 which was just as fast but taxed the memory less, so was generally more stable.

1700 on the memory is easy at stock volts. The 1.4v mod didnt effect it at all either & meant I could get the core higher (640 ish). I dropped mine down to 615 to be safe. Also, my mem could reach 1750 but I dont want it at that, i'm warey of keeping it at it's limit. The memory mod's a bad idea in my opinion, 1700 is fine!

heres a link to the volt mod guide for anyone interested. -will be trying tommorow as soon as my 7900gt arrives!!

You'll love the mod. You'll struggle to beat 2x7800gtxs though, especially if you overclocked them, but it won't be as far away as a lot of people might guess (at least considering a single 7800gtx and a single 7900gt are within a few percent of each other).

I reckon I can get £370 for my 2 gtx's, so its only another £40ish to swap them for 2 7900gt's. My gtx's where at 470/1300 but I reckon with this mod I can get the 2 gt's to 600/1700 at least, for £40 its something Ive got to try! (although its a lot of faffing about) Time will tell, ill post tommorow with my first results.

Dude, the 7900gts will hit 650/1650 even with the 1.4v mod (though I've not gone that far yet, I'm in no doubt that gtx to gtx EE speeds will be attainable.)

What were you getting in the 3dmarks with 2 7800gtxs? Then i'll tell you what i'm getting, without the mod, with 2 7900gts.

I got 13000 in 05 and 6700 in 06, but remember that im on single core.

So am I. 2 7900gts can score more than 500 marks more in 06 without a volt mod.....and at a slower CPU speed than you've got. With the right tuning I think you could add at least 1500 to your 05 score and 1000 to your 06 score.

Time will tell! Im didnt get rid of my GTX's because I need the extra performance but because I want something new to tweak! and I just love overclocking  :D The extra performance is just a bonus :p
