** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

I tried Rivatuner for the first time ever yesterday.

Got a successful overclock.

However, when I want to start the clocks with Windows, so I could effectively forget about it, my Windows Defender throws all its toys out of the pram, and goes on a whine fest.

Well, OK, not that bad, but, because the program has to be "run as administrator" to make the overclocking side of it work, Windows Defender blocks it on each Windows boot, until I allow it to run.

Is there another OC app, which just allows you to set an overclock, and have it stay there, even after a reboot, without having to disable UAC or Windows Defender, in Vista x64?

V1N.

I was in the same boat mate. I love Riva though and didnt really get on with anything else. I think the future release will have a signed driver, but until then I've just disabled UAC, and my computer's still safe - its fine so long as you know what you're installing etc. :)

Yeah, that's fair enough.
I've filled out the RMA form for sending back my 8800GT.

Problem is, I'm still in two minds, I don't really want to part with it, as I've been saving some games until I got a GeForce 8... just started Bioshock, preordered Crysis, getting COD4 + UT3.

If Riva just "worked" without disabling anything, I may well have just kept it, until the 9800 or whatever comes out ;)

If I return it, I dunno when I'll get another.... and there's nothing wrong with my card as such, it's simply not what I ordered.

Hmmm, is there a software that can easily save a bios from a gfx card?

If somebody like Meatloaf could safely save their bios to a file, email it to me, and I could flash my card with it, then it should be sorted. ?? :)

If not, no worries, I shall send it back, and hope the next BFG 8800GT OC I receive has the BFG bios in it ;)

Just run Crisis everything high no AA under XP E6600 @ 3.6 - 745/2100/1863

@ 1920x1200

Min 23
Average 28
Max 32

@1680x1080

Min 25
Average 35
Max 41

Same run with a Quad at 3.6 for comparison

@ 1920x1200

Min 20
Average 28
Max 32

@1680x1080

Min 25
Average 35
Max 41

Conclusion
Using the GPU benchmark Crisis does NOT benifit from using a Quad core. If you look at the Min FPS its actuall down by 3 FPS @ 1920x1200, bizzare.

Hope this helps.

At 1680x1050 all high no AA I get:

@1680x1080

Min 17
Average 38
Max 44

Thats at 700/1757/1050

That seem ok?

Unless i see some major improvements using a quad in the retail release of crysis i will come to the conclusion that it was just all just marketing spin from crytek/ Intel to sell more quads on the popularity of the game.

So has anyone upgraded from a GTX to a GT? I remember quite a few people mentioning it - I just don't see the point.

In truth its not really an upgrade.

Especially at the higher resolutions.

Fact is people would rather have a loss of 3FPS and a gain of 100 quid in their pockets.

The gap between the GTX and GT is so small people are selling their GTX's while they can still get good money for them.

For the price one could sell a GTX for now you would not be far off the cost of GT's in SLI destroying the GTX by a huge margin.
