** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

interested in single vs. SLI performance in WIC if you could possibly have a quick go when you get back. :)

You will see no benifits of SLI in WIC, trust me on this ;)

Both A F R 1 + 2 modes runs identical to having SLI disabled and F S F R is really bad (halves your frames).

In truth its not really an upgrade.

Especially at the higher resolutions.

Fact is people would rather have a loss of 3FPS and a gain of 100 quid in their pockets.

The gap between the GTX and GT is so small people are selling their GTX's while they can still get good money for them.

For the price one could sell a GTX for now you would not be far off the cost of GT's in SLI destroying the GTX by a huge margin.

Sorry guys...upgrade just came out automatically.

Also...sorry but why would someone even buy an 8800GTX is they were bothered about price? Obviously something better will be out a year down the line...

Ah well.

Anyways...when a card comes out 25-50% quicker than a GTX I'll get one.

So has anyone upgraded from a GTX to a GT? I remember quite a few people mentioning it - I just don't see the point.

Me,i offloaded my GTX for £250 and will be getting a GT for £180.

£70 in my pocket and a card that gives me nearly the same performance.

The new GTS is rumored to beat the ultra.

So the new GTX will see even more gains

It's a sidegrade, and the reason to do it is pretty simple...

My GTX was £300, and I can easily offload it for £250, someone has already expressed interest in having it for £265. With that money I can then buy an 8800GT for £180, and I already have one on pre-order, meaning I end up with a same performance, single-slot card and £70-85 back in my pocket. :)

Yup, I could've saved money in the first place by waiting but I'm silly and bought at the wrong time. It happens.

I have an aversion to SLI as it is, I think you just made my mind up for me. :)

A bit ripped off TBFH :p (kidding obviously).

How long did you have your GTX for?.

According to the OcUK accounts system I bought it on September 22nd. :)

If the GT didn't come out it would've been a great buy, but unfortunately I bought it at the wrong time. I still have the GTX in my machine now, I've not sold it yet and I'm going to see how the GT is before I decide.

Who knows, I might end up keeping both if I feel like eating nothing but beans on toast for a while. :D

Just got say it again, " I LOVE MY GT ":o played HL2E2 on my 2900xt and i would lag in open ares with 4xaa, on my GT i can run 16xQAA and not one stutter or any lag in site, its bloody amazing, all other games, UT3, COD4, TIME SHIFT play flawlessly at max settings, crysis ain't to hot in Vista but on XP its great, this is a wonder card from Nvidia and they deserve all the credit they are getting for it.

Amen, its an absolute stonker of a card. :D

LMAO go on, sell that GTX and get some cheese for your beans on toast :D. I know the feeling only too well. I wasn't going to even upgrade this time round as I have so much to spend this Christmas but the 2900pro at the time was an amazing deal. GT popped along and destroyed my 2 week feel good purchase :(.

Sorry to hear about the timing on your graphics purchase. I just hope you don't get stung out of too much money from the sale (if you keep the GT). I bet you felt the sting of the GT's too and a bit more than me :(. Sadly I can't spend the money and pick up a GT now and just wait for the 2900Pro to sell.

I really think you should keep the GT though. Unless you have a screen capable of 1920x1200+. My 2900 is going as soon as I can motivate myself (difficult task :o).

Cheese?! This ain't the Ritz!

It will sting if I keep both, but I really do like my GTX a lot and if I like both very much then I am willing to make sacrifices and stick one in my HTPC. That way I can play games in the living room as well. :)

As for resolution, I swore I'd never go beyond 1680x1050. It'd get too expensive to keep up with then IMO and I'd probably have to go SLI as well.

Take no notice of my last results, that was infact 1680x1050, all high except the Post Process was on Medium giving a big performance boost.

My Results at all high are quite dissapointing tbh I think most people get better than what I've got :(:

PostProcess medium-high has a difference of 10fps

:D lol - thank god I never mentioned Lea & Perrins (oops too late).

Choices, choices!!. Well I hope that you make the right one.

What Res does your TV do btw?. (Trying everything in my powers to stop the farting marathon that will ensue from the bean eating :D).

Oh and for resolutions on my part. 2048x1536 @ 79Hrtz on the CRT (Viewsonic) and 1680x1050 for the LCD screen. I use the CRT mainly as I don't like the ghosting of LCD's (competitive gamer). How well do you think the 2900pro runs 2048x1536 with 4xAA?. You have the power in graphics for my resolutions (well a lot more than a 2900) so I think you should still sell the GTX as long as you get a decent price for it. Even if you want to keep 2 cards for all over the house fun then you could still sell the GTX and buy another GT and still pocket some money for Lea & Perrins and cheese!!! :D.

Haha, its Nod32 thats not compatible with Google desktop, in short, It thinks good desktop is a Virus :p.

I'm now abit upset with my GT clocks :(.

So far I have concluded that 680Mhz is the max it goes without finding artifacts, now I dont think its the cooler since temps only got to 74 degrees, must be voltage, I hope some sort of Voltage mod comes out :(.

I'm gonna try push the memory and shaders.

I'll just have to take your word for it then :D.

Is this ATI Tool finding artifacts btw or is it games too?.

Don't be too dismayed m8. Is the performance at 680Mhz core a lot better than your 2900?, of course it is :D. (Life of Brian "Always look on the bright side of life!).
