Jumping from the Series 7 45mm to the ultra but I'm a yearly upgrader anyway and I've already ordered for the 23rd :) . Wanted something completely different and the Series 8 doesn't really offer anything over the 7 this year, plus the much longer battery life and bigger screen will be really nice. I already get 24hrs to 30hrs easily so hopefully I may squeeze 3 days between charges on the ultra.

I do like they way they make a song and dance about 36 hours battery life..
I had a Steel HR a while back and that'd last more or less a month...

Luckily I quick charge mine in a morning when I'm getting ready for work, or at night when I'm getting ready for bed, a quick 10-minute blast with the 7's quicker charging really does help.

I wasn't really taken from the design during the event yesterday but having seen a few hands on videos I think it looks great. I was contemplating upgrading my Garmin Fenix 5 to one of the larger ones but this has thrown a spanner into the works.

Depends what you do. Chances are when you put the Garmin on for sports you don't get precious about it. An £800 consumable watch might be different. Plus there's the battery life. I mean who want's to go hiking and camping and carry additional battery packs. When they start to scale that watch down with the flatter design it might be more appealing. I mean imagine swimming in that monstrosity. It's like those comical huge watches that footballers all went for in the early 2000's.

Yeah I get that, but it still seemed to be the cheaper, smaller option to go for when compared to the Fenix 7x, which was the alternative. It may just be a new gadget itch that I need to sit on for a week to get out of my system :)

That Watch ultra is the one for me. I’m getting that. I’m just not sure what strap to use, I do a mixture of the lot that they are targeting with the three bands. Orange alpine Probably the best one of the three.

The bigger 8 for me. My 4 doesn’t quite have the battery life it used to and alas it’s had some bumps and bruises along the way. Think I can justify the upgrade to myself quite easily…

The older bands if you have any for the 44mm and 45mm watches apparently fit fine with the 49mm, so at least there will be plenty of bands you could also use. Surprised Apple have kept the backwards compatibility going this long especially for a new model as well, glad they have as I have a few bands I've collected over the years since the first generation so at least they won't go to waste.

Never had a smart watch before so ordered an 8 yesterday. Delivery date's not until next month, because I've got man wrists , so I'm wondering whether I should cancel and get the 7 for £379 given the availability and the fact I don't ovulate.

Showing as available for delivery 16th September from Very. :)

My poor old Tom Tom running watch has finally gone to a better place, so I've been waiting for the Apple event to see which one to pick up. I'm probably going to get the SE as I think that's all I really need, but I'll wait for the online reviews of people using the new 8 watches for running / cycling etc. As this is my first Apple watch, what band is going to be the best for exercising and keeping it on your wrist?

I like the look of the sport loop and Nike band, would you say that's a good choice for me?
