I mean this in the nicest possible way given this is a computing enthusiasts forum but does anyone have a link to a review for the Ultra by an actual athlete/sports enthusiast and not just a geek who wants the latest gadget :D I really want to know how it actually performs for long distance running and mountain climbing.

Pfft, the time it takes me to go from the office to the fridge when I want a snack is right up there in the 0.001% percentile of being an extreme athlete.

DC Rainmaker is probably your best bet for a decent review.

It will probably perform very similar to the regular Apple Watch, just a bit more rugged, with a more accurate GPS and a longer battery life.

With that in mind, look up what proper athletes say about the series 7 and recalibrate that for the updates features or wait for them to review the new one.

Just noticed DC Rainmaker already has a couple of videos up:

With any luck mine will arrive tomorrow. Quite looking forward to it since I currently have a somewhat abused Series 4. With any luck, unlike my phone, this will actually feel like a worthwhile upgrade.

Does anyone bother with screen protectors or any kind of case with their watches? Is it even possible to get something to protect them that doesn't look ridiculous?

No and I don't get the obsession with screen protectors, ugly things. My 5 is still looking decent, has a few minor marks top right from when I fell over building my shed (don't ask) but it's also ~2 years old so I don't really give a damn.

Yeah screen protectors are fine on a device with a flat screen because you can't tell when they're on properly, but on anything with curved edges it looks ridiculous.

My Series 4 has a fair few gouges on the screen but at the end of the day, it's a good few years old and is worth very little at this point in time, with or without a scratched screen so I'll just carry on doing what I'm doing with the Series 8. Except perhaps this time I'll remember to take it off when I'm doing car stuff or racking up servers etc at work :)

I don't use a protector generally - I'll add one when I'm travelling, and a more robust case, simply because that's the only time I've ever smashed a watch. Twice. In the same bloody town in Victoria, go figure.

I’ve pre ordered the ultra so will hopefully get hands on next week - not 100% sold on it size wise but gonna give it a try and decide whether to return for the series 8. The action button is a big draw for me

One of my two turned up. Quite strange since both made it to the national hub at the same time this morning but only one was sent on to the local depot. The other is still at the national hub so I might be nice and let my wife have this one. My strap isn't here for it yet anyway.

My cat seemed quite interested as I awkwardly took it out of the box (he jumped up on me while I'm sat in my chair with my feet up).
