*** The official Apple Watch Series 9, 10 (and Ultra 2) thread (it has double tap and everything!) ***

Picked up a black Ultra 2 in-store yesterday (yes it was mayhem in there).

Upgrading from a series 4 so I think I'm due lol.

Absolutely love it, both the Ultra in general but also specifically the black. I find it much more "understated" than the natural titanium version.

Same after two years of using the silver ultra the black one looks significantly better. Wondering why they never released it in the first place when the first one came out. Side graded from the ultra 2 just to get the black but it was worth it.

How are you finding the size compared to the S4? I assume you had the 44mm version?

I'm thinking of an Ultra 2 but I have girly skinny wrists. The S4 44mm looks good on me — in proportion shall we say. I'm concerned the Ultra will just look ridiculous.

I went from the S4 to the UW2 and initially I found it quite large, and quite uncomfortable. However, I've since realised I didn't like the band I had at the time, I've got the trail loop now, and it's absolutely fine. I have full on baby wrists.

I cracked and picked up a black AWU2 with the black trail loop from the Apple store in Cardiff today (went early so wasn't too busy, was by the time we left).

I actually really like the black Ocean band and want one as a workout/swimming strap, but trail loop for everyday wear/sleeping was the only sensible choice. Seems there's no stock of the black ocean band with the black titanium accents available to purchase seperately anywhere yet for some reason. Apple's own store says November.

It's obviously significantly bigger than my S4 (yes 44mm) but it feels really good on the wrist, not looking too bulky or heavy. FWIW, I have 7.5" wrists and use the Trail Loop.

Go to a store and ask to try one on. The display models have a security thing on the back so it sits too high on your wrist but, if you ask them, they'll get one out of the drawer to try with the band of your choice.

Thanks for that. Really helpful. :)

Probably already been mentioned but, in case it hasn't, one slight gotcha I had with the U2 was that, as it has WatchOS 11 pre-installed, you need iOS 18 to pair it with your phone.

Normally I wait a few weeks before upgrading to a major iOS version to let them shake out and serious bugs but the U2 forced me to upgrade the phone.

I purchased series 10 titanium 42mm, I upgraded from my series 6 titanium 40mm

I’m happy with upgrade, only reason I upgraded was due to my battery life of series 6 only lasting 10hrs.

Most impressive feature of the series 10 has been the charging speed and bigger screen. That’s about it.

Not seen anything else stand out between the two models over 4 years of development.

Bit concerned about the durability of the black AWU2. Friend of mine picked his up on launch day and he’s somehow got a few scratches already, and he tends to baby his devices. The DLC coating on my Garmin is pretty good (not impenetrable) so was hoping the AWU2 would be the same.

Loads of posts on Reddit about scratches already.

Same story with the coloured titanium iPhone 15s.

Seems natural is the way to go.

Had my natural for nearly for 2 years, constantly smashing it on things and on weights in the gym, barely has any marks on it… not sure how they could possibly mess up with the AW2.

I just upgraded from the small version of the series 7 (40mm?) to the 46mm series 10. My series 7 had the rubber strap and my series 10 has the fabric sport band. Wow it’s so much more comfortable and the bigger screen is lovely compared to the smaller series 7.

Happy with the upgrade. I did try on the ultra 2 and it was nice but I won’t use any of the extra features apart from the better battery life. I didn’t think it was worth the extra money

In that case it doesn’t sound like the black one is suitable for extreme activities or any expectation of robustness!
I'm sure it'll survive a few knocks but it won't maintain that lovely finish it has. Mine's going back tomorrow because I know that with the way I tend to treat my devices it won't keep that look for long. That and, to be honest, my Series 9 actually does everything I really need from an Apple watch.

Kinda glad i didn't wait for the black version, I was expecting it last year and when it didn't come out picked up the normal AWU2 in Silver - had for a year now and still looks brand new with no scratches or marks.

I've knocked it so many times and work in a place where I frequently help with manual handling and was worried it wouldn't hold up.

One thing I have noticed with the U2 is that it's locked itself a couple of times for no apparent reason. I suspect I don't have it tight enough on my wrist.

I know it's heavier than the regular watches but, even so, it feels like it's a bit more fussy in that regard.

Fancy buying an all action £700 activity watch and worrying about a few dings and nicks. Again the huge issue with these things not actually using them for what they were designed for or being resilient enough for what they were designed for. The second people put them on they worry about the trade in value in 12-24 months time. Before I traded in my sons black SE for the newer version I coloured in any scratches with a black sharpie :D
