***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

As long as the price stays at the $350/£175 mark (higher spec) then it would be a no brainer purchase and I already have a pda, which is no fun for browsing the net due to the fact that not many sites are really suited to a pda res.

If it starts going over the £200 mark then I'm not so sure, it gets into the think about it first before buying range.

Having said that I think I would prefer the 10" screen version they've mentioned.

please don't be silly mate, anyone can carry a 15inch laptop around, just because many people would prefer not to have that weight on thier back does'nt make them weak, trying to insinuate that is just being childish  .

Exactly, I always took my laptop into uni, even though it was one of the heavier ones having a lighter one and with loads a books can hurt your back still(especially for a littlun like me). It's the reason why I downgraded to a 12 inch and while I like it's power, there are times when I don't need it. This sort would be great indeed and would defo buy it if it came out here.

edit: better come out in a different colour too, white 4TL.
edit: woops, it will, just reread stuff in more detail

I already have a newish pda with wifi/bluetooth and gprs, and a laptop, but then I guess its market is those that don't have those things.
Can't you buy like a 5-year old laptop for that price with better specs, obviously not wifi/bt though? Definitely wouldn't be as portable though.

800x600 is PLENTY good enough for office work! The ability to use a full-featured Office suite makes it capable of things a PDA can't do. Sure, I'd prefer a slightly bigger screen, a hard drive, and maybe an optical drive, but then it'd probably swell to the size (and price) of a standard laptop. This is perfect for people who need something ultra-portable but don't want a laptop as their main machine. If it costs around £120 or so I'd probably get one as an impulse buy!

I'd quite like it if someone manufactured, even at a high price, a larger battery for it. I love the idea of portability but the 3 hours thing is putting me right off, I'd like 5, which should be possible with the screen size, although the physical size of the battery would be the issue

if i can get wine and onenote to work im sorted for next year at uni

Looks good, would prefer they used a 1.8" hard drive rahter than an SSD though.

why ?

you wanting more capicty there or cheapness in price ?

You can get 13" Gateway laptops with a 1.6 Turion64 and Vista Basic for £300

There pritty portable :)

gateway vs asus

sorry no comparison needed asus all the way

That's the lowest spec version with 256MB of RAM though - I know I wouldn't particularly want to run XP and office 2007 with less than 512MB of RAM - so it'll be the top end one for me.
