***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Ports: 3 or 4 USB 2.0, MMC/SD(HC)/MS(PRO) card reader

^^ that stuff looks adequate for videos.
Dont forget they have mini screens etc, not designed for videos really are they.
Portable video players have even smaller screens, you can't tell me they aren't designed for video. ;) Unfortunatley sd cards are £40 for 8GB so thats even more money, and a usb hdd requires an external power source and is practically the same size as that laptop, so you can't use it in a portable way. If it had a hdd and a 12hr battery life like the sony laptops it would be perfect for video use.

Yea, wasnt comparing the laptop with portable video player though! I personally think its too small a screen to really watch films etc on, and lower quality videos will easily fit onto the storage, or small USB sticks(2gb = <£10?)
External HDs do require a power source yea, and they are big and heavy i know, i was thinking more along the lines of memory sticks though, and portable hds(the usb ones that are powered solely from the USB connection)

if it had a HDD and a 12hr battery life im fairly certain it would be quite a few hundred more, since conventional HDDs sap a lot more power than hard-drive in this little baby, and 12hour battery life, well, some mp3 players cant even last 12hrs :D

A God send.

I couldn't decide between a Gaming Laptop or PC for Uni, now I can get a Gaming PC and one of these to do basic word processing and presentations on.

I just hope it sit's around the £200 mark.

its just lower res = cheaper =/
shame really, aload of us geeks wont touch if the res stays same.

Cant imagine these hitting UK shores anytime soon either really.. =/
Demand will be HIGH in the US, they probably will take ages meeting demand there

if the price doesn’t increase these will sell by the boat load

if released here before Christmas i can see me getting one for myself, one for my brother, one for my father :D and probably gift a few

I think the price will be very similar to the USA, if $200 there it will be £100+VAT here. If there is a large price differential I can see people going on holiday there and picking up 50 there to bring back and sell here!

Ladies and gentleman today I am the bringer of great news. A date and price have been announced!

These will launched in the UK on November 1st.

Two models are listed:
4GB HDD, 512MB RAM - 233.83 inc vat & delivery
2GB HDD, 256MB RAM - 198.58 inc vat & delivery

They're calling them <insert competitor name> Asus minibooks.

Unfortunately I can't link to the site because it's a competitor. So - who's getting one?

Who's getting them, not many people unless you're a school institute - they're exclusively for the education market according to the site

Although I would like one still but in black (which I've seen but not found for sale)

The thing with these kinda products is that it may seem cool to start with, but theyl'l be a situation where you want to do something on it that is just too much for it to handle, or just not compatable

I don't know about anyone else but I'll only be using this for office, web browsing and some programming/web development.
